The Biggest Snowflakes I’ve Ever Seen!

Thursday afternoon brought us the biggest snowflakes I’ve ever seen!  I have a tendency to get overly excited about that kind of things, but seriously, even my clients couldn’t get over how big and beautiful the snowflakes were.

Around 9 PM it stopped snowing and I decided to take a walk around our house and snap a few night time pictures.  With the white snow covering everything I didn’t use my flash so I could get a cool effect.  I started in my backyard and captured this picture of our American flag.  Surprisingly I didn’t see any deer sleeping down by the creek.

A benefit of not taking the Christmas lights down on New Year’s Day was being able to admire the lights with snow on them.  Our holly tree has been so gorgeous!

I still love my spiral Christmas trees that I’ve had for many years!

Friday morning I started the day with a cup of hot chocolate in my favorite mug.  Thanks Betty for the Ghirardelli peppermint cocoa mix!

HotChocolateSnow I shoveled the drifted snow off of the driveway a second time, and watched two neighbor children sled down the hill in our side yard.  Every child should experience the wind blowing in their hair while sledding down a big hill!

I spent the rest of the day procrastinating, and avoiding taking our Christmas decorations down…

  • Questions:
  • Did you get snow from Hercules?
  • Hot chocolate or coffee?
  • If you grew up with snow, what’s your fondest memory of sledding as a child?
Happy Running! ~ Deb

We have a dusting of snow on the ground today, and it’s still swirling around. The real story: the bitterly cold temps. It’s supposed to dip below zero tonight and only get into the teens tomorrow. Brrr! Glad you kept your decorations up so you could enjoy them covered in snow. Just beautiful!!

Our temps are supposed to drop to 5 degrees (wind chill -10) tonight with a high of 16 tomorrow. Brrrr…

I was in Boston when the storm hit. We got almost 2 feet at my parents house. And hot chocolate all the way…won’t even touch coffee unless it has lots of chocolate and sugar in it :)

Imagine how many weeks DC would have been shut down with two feet of snow. Glad you got home safely!

Snow is certainly beautiful despite how cold it can be! The photo of your holly tree is stunning!
And Ghirardelli peppermint cocoa mix? That sounds divine! I love hot chocolate but don’t like coffee or tea. Peppermint hot chocolate is my fave!
    Stay warm!

I was very bummed when Starbucks quit offering almond shots for their hot chocolate! It was an excellent combination, too. I’m not a coffee drinker, either.

Oooh, pretty! Those pics look fantastic. We only got about 8-10 inches from Hercules which I was happy with. Even better was that it was fluffy and easy to shovel it. 😉

I’m more of a coffee drinker as of late, but I do enjoy a good hot chocolate! You’ve gotta have whipped cream or marshmallows though. Can’t have it naked.

I had left over whipped cream from a Christmas dessert so I was pretty happy!

We got a lot of snow here in Missouri at least 8 inches. My kids were using my husbands snowboard to go down the hill in our backyard. They had so much fun, my 3yr old squealed every time. It was hard to convince her to come back in the house and warm up.
I love coffee, I don’t really drink hot chocolate anymore unless it has a million marshmallows.

I’m definitely a hot chocolate gal! Funny thing, I actually just went sledding today with my niece and nephew, never too old to go sledding:)
    Great pics, they look beautiful!

Awesome that you got to spend time with your niece and nephew!

This is going to sound ridiculous but I honestly cannot remember if we had snow last week. I think we did? Either way, the snow y’all got is beautiful! I love when it’s all fluffy like that. Good thing you didn’t put your Christmas decorations away, yet :)

My fondest (and most dangerous…) memory of sledding as a child is going down a neighbor’s backyard hill that ended in a creek. There was this skinny little bridge that went over the creek and off into the woods. If you hit the bridge just right, you could extend your ride and go down another hill in the woods. More often than not, we missed and ended up going over the embankment and dropping about 4 feet into the creek. I broke many sleds by landing on rocks in that creek. But it was so much fun and I lived to tell the tale!

I love your sledding story. It sounds just like the dare-devil stunts my brother and I tried! Now as an adult, I’m a nervous Nelly with the creek at the bottom of our hill!
