It’s time for Friday Five linkup with DC area bloggers Courtney at Eat Pray Run DC, Cynthia at You Signed Up for What?!, and Mar at Mar on the Run!  Be sure to stop by their blogs and say hello!

The DC Trifecta chose Favorite Winter Activities to be this week’s Friday Five theme.  Of course, I equate winter to snow, and only mention snowy day activities in my post…

1.  Running – I love running in freshly fallen snow…  It’s like running on a cloud.  It’s rare that we get that perfect snow to run on, but when we do, you can bet that I will be slipping on my trail shoes (and Yaktrax when necessary), and hitting my favorite trails!

2.  Taking Pictures – After a fresh snowfall, Bill and I enjoy heading out for a hike or run, taking pictures along the way.  I took this picture behind our house as we headed out for a run one morning.

3.  Reading – Whether it’s curled up on the sofa with a book or my laptop, there’s nothing like reading while keeping one eye on the gently falling snow outside.

4.  Shoveling Snow – Please don’t hate me, and please don’t ask me to shovel your driveway….  I look at shoveling snow as a good workout.  I enjoy shoveling the light fluffy snow, but not the heavy wet stuff we usually get on the east coast.  If it takes me longer than 20 minutes, it’s no longer fun.

5.  Drinking Hot Chocolate – After a good workout shoveling snow, there’s nothing more rewarding than a cup of hot chocolate… with whipped cream, of course!

Bonus:  Skiing – I haven’t skied in years, but when the boys were younger, we took them on a winter skiing vacation every year.  We taught them to ski (Alpine) when they were three or four years old. I first learned to ski (Nordic) when Bill and I were first married and lived in Utah.  We’d head up into Logan Canyon on the weekends and ski into the back-country.  That’s Bear Lake in Idaho in the background.
