And That’s a Wrap!

Warning:  This post contains thousands of fatty calories, so pull a seat up to our dining room table and let’s talk Christmas food…

I like coconut milk, and I love anything that combines mint and chocolate, so how could I pass this up at Harris Teeter when I shopped for our Christmas spread?  At only 50 calories per half-cup serving versus my ever tempting holiday favorite, Southern Comfort Vanilla Spice egg nog at 220 calories for the same amount, it was a no-brainer.  I sipped on this liquid deliciousness while doing food prep on Christmas Even afternoon.

After Bill got home from work we chilled, had sushi for dinner, and then went to the 8 PM Christmas Eve mass at our church…

After church we have a tradition of coming home for a fun family evening complete with Christmas snacks, cookies, Toasted Almonds, and watching TV, playing games, or just hanging out…

For our Christmas morning feast, I always make sausage rolls…

And this Overnight Blueberry French Toast has become another Christmas favorite…

After brunch, we opened gifts…

I’m not too proud to say that I’ve been known to drop a hint or two about something I want, and Daniel got me this Brooks Nightlife Running Jacket.  It’s a super thin unlined shell and is the perfect weight for winter running for me.  I pop it over a long sleeved shirt and I’m perfectly comfortable on our cold winter runs.

Julie got huge brownie points because she stood in line at the Virginia Tech bookstore to get us this book signed by Frank Beamer, the Hokies head football coach.  When she and Joseph gave it too us, I may or may not have screamed and fallen to the floor in excitement…

After a quick late-afternoon visit with Julie’s family, we returned home and I made chicken parmigiana for Christmas dinner.  It takes forever to make, but it’s delicious!

Pardon me while, I got on a twenty mile run to burn some of these calories off!  HaHa!  Actually, I’ve taken the last two days off to relax and chill with my family, while putting some serious thought into my 2014 racing calendar!

  • Who, besides me, has enjoyed your Christmas goodies a little too much the last three days?
  • What’s your favorite Christmas food or beverage?
  • Who’s got their 2014 fitness calendar planned?
Happy Running! ~ Deb

Sounds (and looks) like an awesome time! And a very delicious one at that! I definitely enjoyed the goodies and I’m sure I’m paying for it, but I’m still on my scale hiatus for a while. My favorite Christmas food, that I only get once a year, are my aunt’s butter cookies. They’re amazing. I may or may not be having some right now…

I’ve worked on my 2014 calendar quite a bit and have a bunch of races all lined up (though nothing definitively registered yet). I worked on it a little while I was at work today even. LOL I’m signing up for some early in the year races this weekend (before prices go up on Jan 1) and then probably signing up for my Tough Mudder in the next two weeks. I bought 10 classes at the local obstacle gym and am currently revamping my strength goals at my regular gym. It’s on!

The goodies are slowing me down and making me lazy! Yesterday afternoon I chose to take a nap instead of going for a run! That’s just not like me at all… 🙂

Looks delicious!! And that’s so sweet Julie got the book autographed for you!
I ate plates and plates of dough and cream (Ukrainian food at its finest) this weekend! And I most definitely haven’t done much of anything to burn it off. Hopefully this weekend I’ll kick my butt into a higher gear!

I think we all deserve to be a little laid back so we can enjoy ourselves during the holidays. I know I have been!

  3. January 5, 2014

Glad you had a great Christmas, Deb! Looks like you made out like a bandit 🙂 I let myself enjoy all the foods over the holidays, but tried to keep everything in moderation. My dad usually cooks a flank steak on Christmas Day, so that would have to be my favorite Christmas food. I always end up drinking White Russians over Christmas, so I guess that’s my favorite drink.

I don’t have concrete plans for 2014, but I have a racing wish list. My plan is to get a good base built, to where I don’t have to follow a training plan in order to be prepared for a half marathon. Then, as long as my body is feeling good, I’m hoping to jump into a lot of races this year. I can’t wait to hear about your plans!

I love your plan for having a solid enough base to always be ready for a half! I posted my race schedule on New Year’s Day. I’m hoping we’re running at least one or two of the same races!
