On Tuesday morning I flew to Chicago for the Club Industry Show being held at the Hyatt Regency. For convenience, I stayed in the Hyatt which also had the dual benefit of being an easy walk to my son and daughter-in-law’s building. After school each day – my son is a second year MBA student at Chicago Booth and my DIL teaches high school math – we were able to get together for dinner and to hang out. I had so much fun and I’m so glad I made the decision to attend the conference!

I’m super pumped after attending my three days of classes and can’t wait to start seeing my clients again this week. I was able to pick and choose lectures from six difference tracts catering to club owners/managers, sales teams, wellness coaches, personal trainers, etc, and decided the following classes would best serve my needs:

  • Taking the Science Out of Nutrition
  • Eight Systems to Make Your Training Department Financially Successful
  • How to Work with People of Size and Train Their Brains for Weight Loss
  • Effective Exercise Programs to Engage Desk Jockey Members
  • How to Generate Seven Figures With Thirty-Minute Training
  • Using Physician Referrals to Build Your Personal Training Business
  • Boomers and Boot Camps
  • How to Successfully Lead a Boot Camp Program
  • Contraindication for Specific Conditions and Diseases
  • Pump Up Your Personal Training Department
  • Hush, Hush: Eating and Exercise Disorders in the Gym
  • Forming Strategic Partnerships With Allied Health Pros

My brain is still churning with so much information swirling around in there, and I’ll need to take some time to go through my notes before I can really make the most use of what I learned.

Besides attending lectures, visiting the trade show, and trying to eat healthy, I did a lot of walking around the city and went on a couple of runs. Finally, on my third visit to Chicago in the past year, I got my running-past-the-bean picture!

After running through Millennium Park, I headed down to Lakeshore Trail and ran along Lake Michigan. I love running along there even if I’m running on concrete the whole time.

I also found this lovely park near Lake Shore Drive and thought it worthy of a picture.

As much as I enjoy having a gym in our basement so there’s never an excuse not to workout, I realized this week in the hotel gym that I miss the motivation others around me provide. Not surprisingly, the gym was packed each morning with other fitness enthusiasts and people-watching helped make my time go by more quickly! Here’s how my week went down…

Fitness tools beyond the equipment in my gym that I used during the week included:

Cameras used for blog photography include:

  • Questions:
  • Does your job require business trips or that you attend conferences?
  • Do you use hotel gyms when you travel?
  • Did you race this weekend?

Have a great week!
