Welcome to Wednesday Word, a monthly linkup for everyone, not just health and fitness bloggers. On the first Wednesday of every month you will have a single word prompt to write about. Let your imagination run free and share with your readers your interpretation of that word, or simply use it as inspiration for your post. Today’s word is talent… I’d love to have you link up, and if you do, please remember to follow my four simple rules.

Talent
A special often athletic, creative, or artistic aptitude
~ Merriam-Webster

I could write about the many talented runners who paved the way to make running the sport it’s become today. Athletes like Jesse Owens, Babe Zaharias, Katherine Switzer, Steve Prefontaine, Alberto Salizar, and Paula Radcliff are just a few who’s names come to mind. More recently Meb Keflezighi, Desi Linden, Shalane Flanagan, Scott Jerek, and local runner Michael Wardian are keeping the excitement going with their own talented contributions to the running world.

Yes, I could write about those runners, but you probably already know as much about those amazing athletes as I do. Instead, I’d like to take a humorous approach to this month’s Wednesday Word with my own self-deprecating style. I often seem to have that special kind of talent that doesn’t necessarily leave one impressed. 😉

It takes a special kind of talent to…

Jam your big toe on the bathroom threshold when sprinting out of bed after oversleeping. It takes an even greater talent to do it on the morning of a long run and not realize that you can barely move your toe and that it’s turned black and blue until after your run.

It takes a special kind of talent to…

Crack a knuckle while running on your treadmill, leaving the console bloody. It takes an even greater talent to wonder where all the blood came from when you finally notice it at the end of your run.

It takes a special kind of talent to…

Turn your bike upside down on yourself when riding very cautiously. It takes an even greater talent to pin yourself under the bike and need help getting up.

It takes a special kind of talent to…

Keep your body constantly covered in bruises that you don’t specifically remember getting other than from running into equipment in the gym. It takes an even greater talent to get those bruises not while you’re working out, but while you’re training clients.

It takes a special kind of talent to…

Accidentally hit one of your ceramic geckos while dumping old ice out of the ice maker from the upper deck.

It takes an even greater talent to hit the gecko squarely on the tail causing it to break off.

It takes a special kind of talent to…

Find humor in yourself. It takes an even greater talent to embrace your klutziness! 😀

What talents, special or otherwise, were you blessed with?
