Embracing the principle of Karma Yoga – following the path of selfless service and action – my Cruiser friend Jerome founded Mats For Mindfulness.

Mats For Mindfulness collects new and used yoga mats which are then given to community centers, schools, veterans, or anyone in need. Their mission is to bring love, compassion, and mindfulness to others through the practice of yoga and meditation.

Jerome had been thinking about creating a foundation of service for years, but it was not until he had a spiritual transformation at Rimrock in Castlewood Canyon State Park, Colorado (pictured in the flyer), that he knew this was to become his purpose.

Below Jerome can be seen practicing yoga as a part of a large outdoor class at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Colorado.

As his foundation Mat For Mindfulness grows, and with the hopes of it soon becoming a non-profit, Jerome continues to collect new and used yoga mats to distribute to those in need.

If Jerome looks familiar, it’s because he’s my friend who paced me for the first few miles of the 2014 Loudoun Half Marathon, and then caught back up to me with a mile left in the race. During that last mile, Jerome told me that this was my come-back race and pushed me to a PR finish!

Crossing the finish line about ten seconds in front of me, Jerome turned to give me a celebratory hug as I crossed the finish line.

It’s Jerome’s loving and giving spirit that makes me confident that Mats For Mindfulness will thrive and make a difference. You can follow Jerome’s foundation on Facebook and Instagram; and most importantly, please consider donating your new or gently used yoga mats to Mats For Mindfulness.
