My week was totally thrown off with Independence Day falling on Tuesday. Just like I’ve done for the previous four years, I started my July 4th holiday running a local race while wearing a rather dapper looking costume… for me, at least. Be sure to check back later this week (hopefully Thursday) to see just how underdressed I was as compared to some of my friends who were also running the Firecracker 5K

Heavy rain most of the day on Thursday kept me off the running trail – yes, I’ve become a wimp – and Friday morning found me making up my missed run. The puddles covering much of the trail were a welcome distraction from my otherwise humid run. I’ve learned to plow right through the puddles because the grass on the side of the trail is usually mud soaked and I’d rather get my feet wet with clear water rather than mud. Besides, who doesn’t love playing in puddles?

After a trip to Wegman’s Friday afternoon, I made zucchini noodles with sautéed mushrooms and onions covered with Wegman’s fresh tomato sauce. A tossed salad and peach/coconut rum cocktail completed our delicious dinner.

Saturday morning Bill and I slept in and then messed around the house, managing not to head out until about noon. Fortunately, the temps were in the high 70’s/low 80’s and manageable. We ran/rode together for about a mile and then Bill sped off.

With a decent breeze blowing about, I felt pretty good and ventured off of the shaded neighborhood trails and onto the W&OD Trail. Because it was so late, the trail was relatively quiet. In other words, the smarter runners and bikers had gotten out much earlier!

After an incredibly relaxing Saturday afternoon, Bill and I decided to see if any of our Cruiser friends were up for a Sunday morning bike ride. Since my weekly recaps are Sunday to Saturday,  I’ll talk about our bike ride next week. I will share a little spoiler – I rode 36 miles, my longest ever. Who knows? Perhaps there’s some sort of century ride in my future!

Looking ahead to this coming week, I hope to finally get my Firecracker 5K recap posted on Thursday. I had hoped to complete it last week, but can’t figure out how to get the watermarks off the free race photos – something new now that =PR= Races has switched over to using FlashFrame. As soon as my handsome IT guy has a chance to help me, I’ll wrap up the recap and get it posted.

In case you missed it, on Wednesday I wrote The Development And Evolution Of A Training Plan as part of my monthly Wednesday Word linkup.

In addition to running, here’s a more detailed look at what other workouts I completed this past week…

Fitness tools beyond the equipment in my gym that I used during the week included:

Cameras used for blog photography include:

  • Questions:
  • What did you do on Independence Day?
  • Do you tiptoe around puddles or charge right through them?
  • Did you race this weekend?

Have a great week!
