After a fun filled weekend at Virginia Tech, Bill and I didn’t get our Sunday run in until late this afternoon.  It was humid, but clouds covered the sun and there was a decent breeze, so it wasn’t too bad.  I usually don’t do well on afternoon runs, but we ended up running our ten miles in just under 1:30, so I can’t complain!

We ran on the W&OD Trail heading east and turned around five miles out.  After about the first two miles I felt really good and it was nice have Bill pushing me more than I would have on my own.  Since it’s so beautiful this time of year, I thought I’d share some of our sights…

There was a snake on the bridge and I got a really good picture of him, but it was kind of gross so I decided to skip sharing it.  It looked like he had been attacked by an animal or hawk and he was a little beaten up on his neck area.  He seemed fine otherwise.  About a mile earlier another black rat snake was on the trail, but he slithered off as I ran up to him, ready to take his picture.  So sadly, you will not get to look at any snake pictures today.

This pretty creek is Broad Run, one of the many small water tributaries that the W&OD Trail crosses.

I”m pretty sure these are blackberry blooms, because during the summer I see blackberries along this area of the trail.

We were pretty excited to see these wild turkeys.  I see them often at my parents’ house, but this is the first time I’ve ever seen any around here!  Gobble, gobble!

The daisies are blooming…

And so are the black locust trees…  If only I could share the delicious scent of these with you!  Black locust blooms have always been my favorite floral fragrance!

Honeysuckle just might be my second favorite scent!
