Last Sunday Bill and I headed out for a 40-mile ride to the end of the W&OD Trail and back. It was my second ride on my new bike, and the first real ride while clipping in. I was extremely cautious at first, but eventually felt comfortable enough to stay clipped in for the duration. Granted, I unclipped before every street crossing a bit earlier than Bill, but a girl’s gotta do what she’s most comfortable doing.
It was 69° when we left our home mid-morning under gray and dreary skis, but most of the clouds burned off, leaving us with a delightful day and lower humidity at only 93%.
I LOVE the little Salsa chili pepper emblem and want to use it in naming my bike. Since the Red Hot Chili Peppers are one of my favorite bands, I’d love for my bike’s name to be a play off of one of their songs. If I lived in California, I’d name my bike Dani, but since I don’t, I’ll have to keep looking. What do you think of Miss Zephyr as in “Fly away on my zephyr, I feel it more than ever; and in this perfect weather, we’ll find a place together…”
Here’s the inspiration for the name Miss Zephyr…
From our home, the W&OD Trail heading west is less hilly and shaded much of the way making it the more desirable route.
I posted this picture to Instagram – I just love the way Bill is turning around smiling at me!
By Tuesday morning the humidity was back to 100% and with a vengeance. Even though it was only 71° at 5 AM, it felt like I was running through soup. Later in the day when it warmed up, the humidity was as disgusting as I’ve seen it in quite a while.
Again this week, a vacationing client allowed me to run later on Thursday morning and with my friend Tracy. We run later, and in our neighborhood, sometimes rather than driving to meet our speedier friends who are currently running tempos on Thursdays. Even though I carried my GoPro (affiliate link) with me the entire time, I forgot to take a picture of us together until after we’d said our goodbyes and I was almost home.
Saturday morning Tracy and met again and this time I remembered to take some pictures! After our turnaround, we met Molly and Hadley out for their 14-miler. They’re training for the Marine Corps Marathon, one of my favorites! Oh, and I promise that I haven’t added a spare tire, that’s just my SPIbelt (affiliate link) sticking out in an odd way under my shirt. 😉
As we wrapped up our 10-mile run, I snagged a picture of us crossing Goose Creek. Shortly after taking this picture, both my phone and GoPro put themselves in timeout. Ugh! I’d received a few texts while running and I think that the jostling of my phone inside my belt tried to open the notification… In the future, I plan to put my phone in airplane mode while running to prevent this from happening.
All of the unintended attempts to open my phone caused it to become disabled and locked me out for one hour. To add insult to injury, I confused my GoPro when I tried to record a new video while it was saving the video I’d just recorded, or at least that’s what I think happened. Anyway, my GoPro froze as well and we had to use Tracy’s phone for other pictures I needed for this Friday’s blog post.

In addition to the runs I mentioned above, here’s a complete run-down of my workouts from this past week (completed mostly in our home gym)…
- What do you think I should name my bike?
- Have you ever been locked out of your phone due to something similar? ~ This also happened to me during the OBX Half last November causing me to lose my music for about ten minutes.
- Did you race this weekend?
And that’s a wrap… Have a great week!
