After a crazy two weeks of travel, I spent the weekend up to my eyeballs in laundry, wedding fun, and finally spending a relaxing Sunday afternoon with my husband and our visiting-sons while watching football and DVD’s from when our sons were little. It was perfect!

So perfect, that I made the decision to let my weekly recap slide. Enter this morning and lifting weights, training clients, driving my son to the airport, hanging around until my irrigation system could be winterized, and finally taking time to sit down to write my recap.

To briefly recap, Monday we flew home from Chicago, Tuesday I trained clients, caught up on our laundry so I could pack for our trip on Wednesday to Blacksburg for the Virginia Tech/Miami game. Bright and early Wednesday morning we took off so we would have time once in Blacksburg to get in a seven-mile trail run at Pandapas Pond before sunset – more on that in a later post.

Thursday morning we headed to Cascade Falls for a delightful five-mile roundtrip hike to the waterfalls. I’ll write a short recap later this week and share some of Bill’s magnificent photos, but in the meantime here’s a sneak peak at how beautiful the trail looks during pre-peak season.

Thursday night we cheered our Virginia Tech Hokies to a victory over Miami in an energized Lane Stadium. There’s no place like Lane Stadium on a Thursday night – Enter Sandman, fireworks, good football, and the occasional snack from one of the stands – all shared with my favorite Hokie!

Friday morning found us driving straight up the interstate home instead of taking the Blue Ridge Parkway and Skyline Drive. Rain and fog made the decision easy even though we were disappointed that we couldn’t make the planned side-trip happen.

Exhausted from such a busy week, I overslept on Saturday morning and had to run alone, often into the face of 38 MPH wind gusts. At times I felt like I was spinning my wheels, but ended my eight-mile run at a 9:30 pace. After spending an hour strength training, I got ready for our friends’ daughter’s wedding where Bill and I danced the night away!

Just a quick reminder that tomorrow morning I’ll have a guest writer sharing her story from a rather scary and adventure-filled run across the island of Lošinj in Croatia. Believe me, it’s not a recap of just any run. Please be sure to pop back over and check it out!

Here’s how my busy week went down…

Fitness tools beyond the equipment in my gym that I used during the week included:

Cameras used for blog photography include:

  • Questions:
  • How much do you travel for work or fun?
  • Do you incorporate workouts into your travel plans?
  • Did you race this weekend?

Have a great week!
