It Was a Busy Week and I Loved It

It never fails that whenever I plan to head out of town, I have at least one new client reach out to me wanting to schedule a consultation or session for that week. This past week, I had three new clients scheduled plus I taught Fitness Machines 101, a two-hour class I teach twice a month. All three new clients were very nice and my FM 101 class was packed. I love that my job allows me to make positive changes in peoples’ lives!

In addition to work, there was a little bit of self indulgence going on. Thursday afternoon I got a manicure and color change for my toes (I’m too cheap for a pedi so I do everything except applying polish myself). I chose a spa blue/green color on my toes which perfectly matches our newly remodeled master bath. I should have taken a picture of my toesies on the bathroom rug before we left home. 😉

Hanging out with Beth and Tom

The seeds for running in Saturday’s Marine Corps Half Marathon in Camp Lejeune, NC were sewn back in February when our dear friends Beth and Tom joined us for our annual Italian dinner party. Beth, an original Cruiser, and I have run hundreds (dare I say over a thousand) training and racing miles together. When she and Tom moved to North Carolina two years ago, we promised to not let the miles between us get in the way of our friendship.

While Beth dangled the possibility of earning another half marathon medal in front of me, Tom hinted of pictures Bill could capture of a harvest moon hanging in the sky over the Atlantic Ocean. They know us well!

We arrived at their condo on Emerald Isle on Friday afternoon and enjoyed a low-key evening. With a 3:30 AM wakeup and a race, our shenanigans would have to wait. Saturday afternoon and evening on the other hand…

Bullfrogs

Because I love bartending, I brought the ingredients to treat our friends to one of our favorite beach/poolside drinks to enjoy Saturday afternoon after the race. Here’s the recipe. You’re welcome!

1 can frozen limeade concentrate
3/4-can vanilla vodka (use limeade can)
1/4-can plain vodka (use limeade can)
Mix together in pitcher
Sprite Zero (added as drinks are served)

Fill glass about half full of ice. As you serve, mix the above mixer 50/50 with Sprite Zero (use more or less Sprite Zero depending on how potent you want your drink). Mix and enjoy!

And Now on to a RunDown of this Past Week’s Workouts…

Running

On Monday morning, I headed out early for what I expected to be my next to last run prior to race day. I had a really good and uneventful run.

Tuesday while demonstrating a stretch in my Balance and Stretching Class, I twisted my back in a weird way and got a muscle spasm. For the next few days, my SI joint felt wonky so I decided to skip my Wednesday morning run, confident that skipping one run wouldn’t hurt, but risking a run might set me back a few days.

Saturday’s Marine Corps Half was a ton of fun and as expected, the marines did an outstanding job putting on a great race. Beth and I arrived on base at Camp Lejeune by 5:30 for the 7 AM race which allowed us plenty of time to pick up our packets, hit the restrooms several times, and people watch.

While people watching from our car, I wondered if the lady who had just walked by could be Pam from Two Runners Travel. I hopped out of the car and called her name, but by then the group of women had walked out of ear shot. I did see Pam out on the course and confirmed that indeed it was her. We chatted briefly before turning back to each run our own race.

We had an opportunity to chat again right after we finished and again at the the awards ceremony. Spoiler alert, we both won our age groups!

Biking

Since both my Sunday bike ride and Wednesday run didn’t happen, I decided to hop on my spin bike (affiliate link) for a steady ride on Wednesday afternoon.

Strength Training

I had planned to lift on Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday, but Sunday got away from me and I skipped my workout. I ended up lifting on Monday and Wednesday, and then letting my body rest the rest of the week.

Yoga

I squeezed in two ten-minute and two half-hour yoga sessions.

It’s on the Blog

In case you skipped checking in on my blog this past week, here’s what you missed…

Oh my goodness, I still didn’t get my recap of our hikes at the Northern Rim of the Grand Canyon posted as I’ve hoped to for the past couple of weeks… And you know what? It might go on the back burner until I finish my race recap.

In addition to the workouts I mentioned above, here’s a complete rundown of my workouts from this past week (completed mostly in our home gym)…

  • Questions:
  • If you get pedicures, are you a pink and red type person or do you venture beyond the traditional colors? ~ Going blue/green was a real stretch for me!
  • Have you ever unexpectedly met virtual friends at a race? ~ I have previously arranged meetups, but this was the first time I saw someone that I hadn’t previously planned to meet up with.
  • Did you race this weekend? ~ Indeed I did!

And that’s my rundown… Have a great week!
