You wake up and it’s light outside and that just doesn’t seem right…

Yesterday morning I woke up at 5:56 – just four minutes before I was supposed to meet my running friends.  I had changed the time on my alarm to the correct wake-up time, but I’d failed to actually turn it on.  I sent my friends a quick text telling them I wouldn’t be there, and then fell back to sleep for over three hours. Wow, I must have needed that sleep!

Once I finally woke up, I saw a message from my friend Lupe about a 6:30 trail run for this morning, so I relaxed and decided to go for a walk with Bill instead of running by myself.

It’s been almost two weeks since Bill’s knee surgery, and he’s working hard to get back on the running trail by fall.  He’s been riding our spin bike, going on walks, and doing isometric leg exercises.  He’s graduated to squats and lunges with limited range of motion and balancing on the BOSU.  Of course, he can still do all of his upper body and most core exercises.

We walked for just over five miles at a relaxed pace.   Bill’s surgeon says that as long as he doesn’t feel any pain, he can do most anything he wants except running.

A couple of different times, Bill set the GoPro (affiliate link) up for me to run past, and I have to admit that I like the way my tibialis anterior pops out in my leg in this picture. I also love catching both feet off the ground!

It was cool and quite nice despite it being mid-day in July, and even though it felt great to run a few strides for the GoPro, I enjoyed my walk with my running bestie.  Since I’d already set up a makeup trail run with some friends, I didn’t feel like I was missing out on my run, and looked at my Saturday walk as cross-training.

We had a relaxing rest of our day, and I tried to get to bed early for today’s early morning run.  Key word – tried…
