It’s time for Friday Five linkup with DC area bloggers Courtney at Eat Pray Run DC, Cynthia at You Signed Up for What?!, and Mar at Mar on the Run! Be sure to stop by their blogs and say hello!
1. Running – I love running in freshly fallen snow… It’s like running on a cloud. It’s rare that we get that perfect snow to run on, but when we do, you can bet that I will be slipping on my trail shoes (and Yaktrax when necessary), and hitting my favorite trails!
2. Taking Pictures – After a fresh snowfall, Bill and I enjoy heading out for a hike or run, taking pictures along the way. I took this picture behind our house as we headed out for a run one morning.
4. Shoveling Snow – Please don’t hate me, and please don’t ask me to shovel your driveway…. I look at shoveling snow as a good workout. I enjoy shoveling the light fluffy snow, but not the heavy wet stuff we usually get on the east coast. If it takes me longer than 20 minutes, it’s no longer fun.
5. Drinking Hot Chocolate – After a good workout shoveling snow, there’s nothing more rewarding than a cup of hot chocolate… with whipped cream, of course!

Gorgeous last picture! I end up shoveling the snow in front of my apartment – enjoyable when its fluffy! Not fun when its heavy (and my roommate doesn’t shovel at all…at least I get a work out).

Why won’t your roommate help you shovel? When the snow is wet and heavy, I’m afraid I’m going to hurt my back shoveling, so I’m constantly reminding myself to engage my core.
Pictures are definitely pretty in the winter. I’m with you on the shoveling though. It’s a good workout, but only for so long.

And only so many days in a row! After a few days the novelty wears off.
I actually like shoveling snow as well! It’s great exercise we just don’t get very much each year do we?

Perhaps this is the year! 🙂
Wow, those ski pants are very stylish 😉 Can you believe I’ve never run in the snow??

HaHa, Sue, those snow pants were very stylish in 1982 when that photo was taken.
You’ve never run in the snow? You’re missing out on a lot of fun!
We like to ski but don’t get the opportunity where we live. I’ve never tried cross country but would love to. I would imagine that is great exercise. The way you feel about shoveling snow is how I feel about yard work. I love to pull weeds! I’ve got a Christmas 5k tomorrow. Enjoy your weekend!

Cross-country skiing is a great workout! Great for the legs, the core, and your endurance. I love gardening, too.
Your snow shoveling brings a fond memory of all our neighbors shoveling the drive of one of our more senior neighbors. He’d thank us by calling us to the door and giving away wine. But we would have done it without the wine.

That’s so nice of you and your neighbors to shovel snow for an older neighbor. As I read your comment, I anticipated you saying he rewarded you with hot chocolate. Wine – even better!
I love that photo of your backyard! I grew up in Buffalo so I LOVE the snow. I know how you feel about shoveling…sometimes I enjoy it too!

I love snow, but some winters we don’t get a lot here. We do get a lot of the “icy mix” which is messy and no fun.
I’ve never run in the snow, but I imagine it’s just as difficult as running in the dry sand at the beach. You make it sound much easier though. And I must commend your photography skills. Those pictures are gorgeous!!!
Haley @ Running with diapers recently posted…Friday Five: Winter Weather Activities
I think running in the dry sand at the beach is harder than running in the snow. The snow flattens out and doesn’t shift under your feet like the sand does. Of course, that’s if it’s fresh snow that hasn’t had a chance to thaw, and refreeze. Then the snow is slippery, and can be very dangerous without Yaktrax.
Thanks for the photography compliment! All of those pictures were taken with either my iPhone or little Canon PowerShot (except to the throwback skiing picture).
Shoveling snow….no! I’d rather staying inside and run the treadmill…..haha. I love your mug. I miss living in Virginia. I like the one that says Virginia is for runners too. Have you seen that one?

I haven’t seen the mug that says, “Virginia Is For Runners,” but I’ve got a hoodie that says that.
I love that retro pic of you and Bill!
I actually like to shovel snow, too! I think Kelly and I are one of the only couples who fight to shovel 🙂
I used to love downhill skiing, but xc has taken the lead the last couple of years!
Thanks, Abby! Kelly might get to do more of the shoveling this year as your due date nears! 🙂
i LOVE that pic of you guys skiiing – so adorable. i think it’s awesome that you like to shovel snow 🙂

Great list. Nothing like hot chocolate after the snow.

I like reading in a warm cozy place. I’m not a super fan of winter or snow or cold so I try not to be out in it:)
