Here we go again…

Last month I talked about learning the hard way to listen to my body, and as runner’s go I think I’ve gotten pretty good at it – until Tuesday morning. Let’s back up a bit…

After Saturday’s early morning bathroom injury, I felt perfectly fine on Sunday so Bill and I headed out for a walk. Monday proved to be completely normal while training my clients and I was pleased to feel so good while strength training and doing my yoga routine.

Monday afternoon, while writing a program for one of my clients, I hopped up from my desk to try out a moderately difficult core exercise I saw on YouTube (I always demo new exercises for my clients). With my feet on sliders I didn’t realize how quickly my feet would slide away from my body and put unnecessary pressure on my lower back. The second they slid backwards, I felt a significant dull pain, but it went away very quickly so I dismissed it. I spent the rest of the afternoon sitting at my desk writing workout plans and two blog posts.

Tuesday morning I woke up early to meet my friends for a run at 5:30. While unloading the dishwasher, I noticed a tingling sensation in my right leg. Already up and dressed for my run, I met my friends anyway. Even before the turnaround, I was lagging behind with pain/tingling in my right hip joint/upper leg and had to take a lot of walk breaks on my run back to my car. As a result, I left the parking area a little later and was treated to a fabulous sunrise. It was so gorgeous that I stopped on my way home to take this picture of the sun rising over the pond.

Suffice it to say that I spent the rest of the week training smarter and spent far more time walking than running in my walk/runs. During my run segments I focused extra hard on core stabilization and running form. On Saturday morning, I met a non-runner friend for a walk – a silver lining in my injury cloud.

Sitting seems the hardest on my back, so with three blog posts looming ahead this week, I just might find myself standing at my kitchen window to use the countertop as a standing desk. At least the view isn’t so bad…

Looking ahead to this week I have two linkups I’d love to have you join, my third installment of Race Linkup is set to publish tomorrow and this month’s interpretation of our Wednesday Word, nimble, will post on Wednesday. Also, I’ll be joining in on The Ultimate Coffee Date on Saturday.

Back to my workouts, here’s how my more cautious than normal workout week went down…

Fitness tools beyond the equipment in my gym that I used during the week included:

Cameras used for blog photography include:

  • Questions:
  • Which do you see more often, sunrises or sunsets? ~ Sunrises for me!
  • Do you spend more time sitting or standing?
  • Did you race this weekend?

Have a great week!
