Welcome to Race Linkup, a monthly linkup opening on the last Monday of every month and staying open for four weeks. Link your race schedule so everyone can see who else will be at the next race and we can arrange meet-ups with other bloggers and our readers. You can link up your race schedule every month or only when you register for an additional race – you choose how often you want to get your schedule out there for other runners to see. I’d love to have you link up, and if you do, please remember to follow my six simple rules.

I recently discovered at new race (at least to me) at one of my favorite state parks. The Smyth County Chamber of Commerce will be hosting the Assault on Molly’s Knob – Extreme 5K at Hungry Mother State Park on October 13th with all proceeds going to Imagination Library.  Having run the Hungry Mother 25K Trail Race in early April and having loved every minute of it, I’m seriously considering running this race and if I do, I’m hoping to convince my friend Meagan to join me.

With 1,000 feet of elevation gain in the first 1.7 miles this won’t be your typical 5K. In fact, it’s 3.4 miles, 3/10 of a mile longer than a true 5K. For a $25 registration, why not challenge myself to something really different?

Here’s where you’ll find me the rest of this year…

October 6 – Freedom’s Run Half Marathon – Shepherdstown, WV (not definitive)
October 13 – Assault On Molly’s Knob – Extreme 5K – Marion, VA (even if a trip to SWVA doesn’t work out this year, perhaps I’ll try to run it next year)
November 22 – Ashburn Farm Thanksgiving Day 5K – Ashburn, VA
December 2 – Run With Santa 5K – Reston, VA

  • Questions:
  • Have you tried an extreme 5K trail race? ~ If I run this, it will be a first for me!
  • What’s the most challenging race you’ve run? ~ JFK 50-Miler simply for the distance…
  • Are you running any of the races I have on my schedule?

Hope to see you at a race!
