Time To Rest
As I lay down on the table for my dermatologist to remove another basal cell from the back of my left knee, he asked what the chances were that he could convince me to stay inactive for two weeks while it healed. He knows me well…
I immediately spouted off what I’d done on Wednesday morning in anticipation of just that request – I’d run 5 miles, foam rolled, planked, ridden my stationary bike 5 miles, spent an hour lifting weights, and thrown in several sun salutations for good measure, and I’d trained two clients. When you bounce out of bed at 4:30 AM, you can get some serious stuff done. 😉
On Sunday I ran in one of my favorite races of the year – I know I say that about several races, but seeing so many running friends gather for a race just makes my heart happy. My race recap is almost finished so please stop back by on Tuesday to read all about our shenanigans! Needless to say, I had a ton of fun even if I experienced a significant pain in my right glute/hamstring at mile 1 and had to slow down to finish the race.
I was nervous about heading out to run on Tuesday morning after the pain I’d experienced during Sunday’s race. Prepared to immediately stop and walk back home, I felt good enough to push through three miles. If I hadn’t be anticipating having to take two weeks off from running as of Wednesday due to my surgery, I probably wouldn’t have pushed to get in a run.
I ran again on Wednesday, feeling even better than on Tuesday and hope that in two weeks when I can run again, my nagging glute/hamming pain will be a thing of the past.
As I mentioned above, I rode my bike on Wednesday because I knew that I wouldn’t be able to get on it for the next two weeks.
I still haven’t set up my new a bike Garmin (affiliate link). Like I said last week, I need to get my IT guy on it!
I got in two really good strength training sessions on Monday and Wednesday, but then modified my Friday workout to be much easier – I lifted upper body only while sitting and using lighter weights. I’ll go back to normal weights tomorrow, but will continue to stick with upper body only until my two weeks are up.
I had hoped to try some new yoga routines, but time wasn’t on my side so it was easier to do something I already knew. Perhaps this week I’ll give a new routine a try, but only if I find something that’s exclusive to the upper body.
Partying With Santa
We went to our first of several Christmas parties last night. It was family friendly and this jolly old chap was on hand to entertain the children.
In case you skipped checking in on my blog this past week, here’s what you missed…
- Sunday – Running With a Limp and Back on the Bike
- Tuesday – The Perfect Christmas Tree for a Wide-Eyed Little Girl
Looking ahead to this coming week…
- Tuesday – I hope to have my Run With Santa 5K recapped (I know I said that last week, but I just didn’t get done. It’s almost finished for this week’s publication, though.)
- Thursday – I’ll have a best of blog rerun with Buddy the Elf visiting my gym.
In addition to the runs I mentioned above, here’s a complete run-down of my workouts from this past week (completed mostly in our home gym)…
- What’s your party circuit look like this season?
- What’s your favorite race of the year?
- Did you race this weekend?
And that’s a wrap… Have a great week!
