Apparently Stalking the Weather isn’t Just for Runners

I became more and more obsessed with stalking the weather for this morning’s Bike NY Five Boro Bike Tour as the week wore on. Here’s a summary of my findings…

  • Wednesday – Morning low of 55° with a high of 56° and 70% chance of rain
  • Thursday – Morning low of 62° with a high of 68° and 70% chance of showers
  • Friday – Morning low of 56° with a high of 56° and rain
  • Saturday – Morning low of 56° with a high of 57° and rain

I don’t ride in the rain or the cold; but I’m a girl who loves adventure, and I’m chalking today’s ride up as an adventure that will get me out of my comfort zone. It’s going to be all about getting out there and having fun with my friends as we ride through the closed streets of NYC and Central Park. And perhaps, just perhaps, the weather forecast is completely wrong and it will clear off!

Checking off the Punch List Items

On Thursday, our contractor stopped back by to complete the final items on our punch list for our master bath remodel. Thankfully, the hot and cold water is no long reversed in our shower. We were displaced from our master suite for seven weeks, but I’m thrilled that this remodel is behind us and we no longer have a toilet setting in our bedroom. 😉 I still have to do the finishing touches by finding a couple of orchids for the tub and some art for the walls, but that’s the fun stuff!

Guess Why I Need Fake Trumpets

Also on Thursday, I swung by the Party Depot to pick up two trumpets. Wanna guess what we’re going to do with them? Check out my Instagram later today and you’ll see!

More Time to Read

Blogging friends, did you notice that I hit up your blogs with lots of comments again yesterday morning? I took full advantage of being stuck in the car on the drive to New Jersey. Recently, long car rides seem to be the only down time I have and it’s a great time to play catch up!

Celebrating Cinco de Cuatro

In keeping with the Bluth family in Arrested Development, last night we celebrated Cinco de Cuatro.

Our group of runner friends turned bikers met at our hotel in Linden, New Jersey and then walked next door to Chevy’s. Since it was the eve of Cinco de Mayo, it only seemed appropriate to celebrate Cuatro de Mayo; or Cinco de Cuatro as I prefer. I’m always up for Mexican food and a margarita, but would never consider eating that prior to running a race. Perhaps this biking thing isn’t so bad after all.

And Now on to a RunDown of this Past Week’s Workouts…

After last week’s discomfort from sitting in the car too long on both Friday evening and Sunday, I recovered just fine and had three solid runs without any pain. In fact, with all three runs I had paces in the mid to upper nines and felt great.

On Wednesday I took advantage of a hole in the middle of my day and headed out for a 25-mile solo ride. Zephyr, my relatively new Salsa, rides great and I love that it can handle gravel on the parallel horse trail whenever I need to jump on it.

While riding, I started thinking about what I’d do if I got a flat. I knew that I had a spare tube in my pack, but didn’t know if I had a CO2 cartridge. Shortly, after that thought popped in my head, I came upon a rider with his bike turned upside down on the trail. As I slowed to a stop to see if I could help, he asked if I had a spare CO2 cartridge. I checked and didn’t, but just at about that time we heard a pop, and his tube had inflated.

Flat tires – something that doesn’t happen when running… Twisted ankles, yes, but flat tires, no…

Another consideration to keep in mind when riding, what to do with your bike if you have to stop and use the restroom. Fortunately, with this oversized, single-person restroom, I didn’t have to worry about a thing.

Strength Training

Three workouts out of my goal of three completed!

I’m still doing my tried and true half-hour routines that I can fit easily into my day. One of these days I really do intend to try Five Parks Yoga or another online yoga class. I also need to put Yoga for Runners back into my routine and add a Yoga for Bikers routine.

It’s on the Blog

In case you skipped checking in on my blog this past week, here’s what you missed…

Unfortunately, my Runfessions post didn’t get finished so it’s going to have to hang on for another month.

In addition to the workouts I mentioned above, here’s a complete rundown of my workouts from this past week (completed mostly in our home gym)…

  • Questions:
  • How early do you start stalking the weather before outdoor events?
  •  Bikers, would you be able to fix your tire if it went flat while on a ride?
  • Did you race this weekend?

And that’s my rundown… Have a great week!
