The Visit that Didn’t Happen

Pablo was supposed to spend the weekend with us, but with the cancelation of the Asheville Half Marathon, his humans stayed home… and so did he.

Social distancing had Pablo doing what so many others were doing, watching Netflix on his laptop… 😆😂

Spring is in the Air

On Monday afternoon I took a short walk around my neighborhood just to admire the spring flowers breathing a breath of fresh air into an otherwise gloomy day.

Yellow jonquils…

White star magnolias…

And by Saturday the sun was shining and these magnolias had started popping open…

Pink northern magnolias…

Changing the Name of my Blog

I’m seriously considering renaming my blog to Deb Whines because between being injured and being sick, I’m starting to feel that my Weekly RunDowns have transformed into Weekly Whines. I was still coughing and feeling exhausted on Tuesday so I called my doctor and asked to talk to a nurse. The receptionist said I should see my doctor instead and made an appointment for that afternoon. Shortly thereafter, she called back and said that due to my symptoms they didn’t want me to come into the office and that they’d see me in the parking lot instead.

I was super impressed with how quickly and how organized they had the drive-through office set up. Long story short, I had never fully gotten over the flu and still tested positive for flue type A.  As of Sunday morning I am feeling much better and much less tired. Please note, that I was not given a COVID-19 test because I didn’t have all of the symptoms of the virus so there was no need to waste one on me. I was given another deep swab in both nostrils to test for flu and other viruses.

The entire experience was very surreal…

Physical Therapy, the Great Healer

I had to cancel both appointments with my physical therapist this past week due to being sick AND the need to social distance – I was so bummed. I got a call later in the week asking if I’d be interested in scheduling an appointment this coming week for a session via TeleHealth. I immediately said yes and we’re scheduled for Thursday morning!

Personal Fit Fitness is Temporarily Closed for Business

Sadly, I’ve had to suspend my personal training business (both at the gym and at my home gym) for the foreseeable future. Assuming I continue to feel better later this week, I plan to teach my balance and stretching class via live streaming on Facebook.

Live Streamed Mass

Before moving on to this week’s workout, I’ll leave you with this quote by our priest from this morning during mass which was live streamed on Facebook.

“Though we may be half way through the Lenten season, we have little idea where we stand in our fight against this pandemic which has affected nearly every aspect of our lives… Easter may just be weeks away, but we don’t even know if we’ll be able to celebrate in church and receive the Eucharist on that glorious day. These may not be things to rejoice about, but there is one thing that supersedes all the rest and that is the love and the mercy of God. In fact, our faith may be just that one constant amid all the changes in this world of ours. And perhaps, just perhaps, we’re beginning to see in a new light all the things that we’ve taken for granted, all the things that we’re simply accustomed to as if somehow they’re owed to us.”

And Now on to a RunDown of this Past Week’s Workouts…

Running

0 x 0 Miles

Still no running, but hopefully soon…

Walking

1 x 1 Mile without Incline
2 x 3 Miles with Incline

I may have overdone it by getting back on my treadmill (affiliate link) and pushing myself too quickly after my first round of the flu.

Biking

1 x 10 Miles

I was thrilled to hop back on my spin bike (affiliate link) on Monday for some easy miles, but again, I probably was pushing myself too much.

Strength Training

1 x 1 Hour
0 x 0 Hours of PT
1 x 30 Minutes of PT Homework

A sure sign of me not feeling well is for me to skip a strength training workout. In fact, I skipped two after pushing though Monday’s workout.

Yoga

0 x 0 Minutes

I just wasn’t feeling it…

It’s on the Blog

In case you skipped checking in on my blog this past week, here’s what you missed…

Looking ahead to this coming week, I have a fun little throwback post about biking in DC during peak cherry blossom season scheduled for Tuesday and a spotlight on local athletes post scheduled for Thursday.

In addition to the workouts I mentioned above, here’s a complete rundown of my workouts from this past week (completed either outside or in our home gym)…

Questions:
  • • How did your life change this week? If you work, are you able to work from home? Did you have to cancel any other appointments?
  • • What have you been able to do via live streaming, Zoom, etc. that would have otherwise been canceled?
  • • Did you run in a race this weekend, perhaps by running a virtual race?

And that’s my rundown… Have a great week!
