More Time, Less Productivity

It seems the more time I have, the less I get done… Until we have a heavy frost and I cut back my flowers and plants, my gardening is pretty much behind me for the season and that has freed up a tremendous amount of time when compared to the last few months. I also finished a furniture refinishing project freeing up even more time, so instead of getting a crapload of stuff checked off my todo list this week, I spun my wheels looking at social media and reading in my spare time…


Overview of the Week

Before discussing each day’s workouts, here’s an overview of my workouts from this past week. Scroll down for daily details…



I took Sunday off as a rest day. Bill and I spent the afternoon putting together two patio heaters so it was more of an active rest day. 😉



It was 45° and very misty when I headed out at 5:30 AM for my 4-mile 4-minute run/2-minute walk intervals. I felt great and finished at a 10:33 average pace. Later in the day I lifted weights for an hour.



I was still very aware of my knee (whenever going up or down stairs) from last week’s ride on my gravel bike with the seat positioned too low so I opted to ride my spin bike (affiliate link). My plan was to bail if necessary, but luckily my knee felt great and I was able to finish 20 miles at an average speed of 17 MPH. I definitely felt like I got a great workout and finished my 7:30 AM workout a sweaty mess.



It was a crispy 59° at 5:15 AM when I started my final 4-minute run/2-minute walk intervals (next week I move up to 5-minute run/1-minute walk). I felt great and finished 4 miles at a 10:39 average pace. I had time to fit an hour of strength training in before I started training my morning clients.



We woke up to rain from the remnants of Hurricane Zeta (by then a tropical storm) as it moved across the mid-Atlantic states. With rain in the forecast all day I opted to once again ride my spin bike, but procrastinated until 3:15 PM. Right as I got to mile 18 my knee started bothering me so I stopped short of my planned 20 miles. My average speed was 16.4 MPH and as soon as I hopped off the bike, my knee quit hurting.



Other than an hour of strength training and actively teaching my balance and stretching class, I took Friday as a cardio rest day.



Bill and I had several group options for our Saturday ride, but ended up doing our own thing. After a relaxing morning while giving the temps a chance to move out of the 30’s and up to 48°, we drove to western Loudoun for 27 miles of gravel grinding and it was perfect! We stopped for lots of pictures during the first 10 miles, but then got serious and finished our ride with 1,614 feet of elevation gain at a 12 MPH average speed. Worth noting, I had absolutely zero knee pain during the ride!

After we got back to our car, we stepped back in time and had lunch at the Philomont General Store.
