Here We Go Again

Even though we didn’t host Easter on Sunday, I had plenty enough Easter candy filling my cute bowls and baskets to feed a small army – candies wrapped to look like Easter eggs, M&M’s in spring pastels, and the mandatory chocolate Easter bunny… It’s funny, I have complete self control and leave all the  yummies alone as if they’re non-edible replicas until the holiday hits and then it’s like a free for all with each type of candy screaming louder for my attention.

By now most of the candy has either been devoured or tossed and everything will be gone one way or another by tomorrow morning. This seems to happen after every holiday and I have to get my mind back around healthy eating habits after a week or so of lack of self control. And once I’m back on track? I know how much better I’ll feel and that’s motivation enough!

Overview of the Week

Before discussing each day’s workouts, here’s an overview of my workouts from this past week. Scroll down for daily details…

Sunday

Still recovering from Saturday afternoon’s extremely hilly and taxing gravel ride, I decided to give my body the treat of a rest day. We celebrated a wonderful Easter with mass via Facebook Live and then went to our son and daughter-in-law’s new home for dinner. The weather cooperated and we were able to spend the afternoon outdoors basking in the glorious spring weather.

Monday

I spent an hour strength training in the morning and then set about gardening for about an hour in the early afternoon. When Bill suggested we try to beat the sunset with a ride on the W&OD Trail, I jumped at the chance. We rode 25 miles (14.4 MPH average speed) and beat the sunset home by mere minutes.

Tuesday

It was a delightful 54° when I got up, but I opted to wait until later in the day before heading out for my run based on the heaviness of my legs after Monday’s epic late afternoon bike ride. Unfortunately, it was 77° when I headed out at 1:30 PM, but without our usual humidity, I felt fine. I cut it short after a 5K (9:15 average pace), but went back out for a 2-mile walk (14:29 average pace) at 4 PM. Once home, I foam rolled and stretched for 10 minutes each.

Wednesday

Feeling tired, I limited my workout to an hour of strength training. During the early afternoon, I spent another hour of easy gardening, but called it a day and resisted the temptation to go for a walk.

Thursday

I had hoped Bill would be able to join me for a 7 AM ride, but with an early appointment it wasn’t meant  to be. I rode alone in the delightful 57° morning stopping a couple of times for pictures. I cut my 30-mile ride close (14.5 MPH average speed) and made it home with only 22 minutes to spare before logging on with my first client.

Friday

I took the day off from client sessions because I had appointments set up with a plumber for an emergency leak repair and our irrigation company to turn on our system for the summer, and both had four-hour windows during which they might show up. My fear was that they’d both show up at the same time since one would need the main water valve to the house shut off and the other would need it turned on. Luck was with me, and they didn’t come close to overlapping.

Prior to 8 AM, I did an hour of strength training with 10 times of running 3 sets of step intervals between each superset. I hadn’t done that workout in several weeks and it left me huffing and puffing.

Saturday

I skipped a ride with Bill and our friend Tom and instead went for a solo run. It was 54° and misty and I completed 4 miles at a 9:06 average pace. Once done, I did beauty duty and hit up the grocery store to get the finishing touches for a surf and turf dinner (grilled shrimp and filet mignon) with the kids for Easter 2.0 and to give out their Easter baskets. Pablo was clearly pumped to get a frisbee, a rubber frog, a hiking water bottle, and some treats.

It wasn’t until later in the day after the kids left that I was able to fit in my foam rolling and stretching, but I was happy that I remembered to do it.

Here’s What You Might Have Missed

In case you skipped checking in on my blog this past week, here’s what you missed…

Questions:
  • • If you celebrated Easter, where you able to see family?
  • • Do holidays mess up your eating habits in a not-so-healthy way?
  • • Did you run in a race this weekend? If so, was it live or virtual?

And that’s my rundown… Have a great week!
