Crazy Sleep Numbers
Just for fun I have to show how my Fitbit is suddenly whacked out with tracking my sleep. It died on Thursday, but I successfully reset it and it started working fine until today’s weird naps.
Saturday’s (shown as today) 10:23 PM – 5:47 AM sleep hours are correct; however, the 10:10 AM – 12:49 PM “nap” was while I was outside cutting back dead blooms from some flowers, changing sheets, and eating lunch. The 2:25 PM – 3:50 PM was a legitimate nap and the 5:19 PM – 6:28 PM “nap” was while I was making dinner and taking a couple of phone calls while walking around (I pace while on the phone).
I decided to order a replacement since I really like the one I have (it’s the Fitbit Alta HR), but it’s been discontinued and has gone up in price from $119 to $279 for the few that are still in stock. I opted to order the non heart rate Fitbit (affiliate link) for $10 more than I paid originally for the HR. Sigh…
Overview of the Week
Before discussing each day’s workouts, here’s an overview of my workouts from this past week. Scroll down for daily details…
I woke up totally pumped about what we’d gotten accomplished with our son in his yard the evening before and started daydreaming about future projects. Motivated like I hadn’t been since last fall’s perennial garden makeover, I spent over four hours during the afternoon in the miserable mid-90’s humidity weeding and spreading mulch in our own back yard and I loved every second of it.
Later in the evening I spent about 30 minutes strength training (focusing on legs) because my Monday was slammed full of clients with minimal time for my own workout.
I spent about 30 minutes focusing on unilateral strength training hitting my right side only while still recovering from the removal of a squamous cell carcinoma on top of my left shoulder.
After work Bill and I spent about 2.5 hours helping our son wrap up his lawn project.
I was up and out the door by 7 AM for a 5K run in our neighborhood. It was 74° and humid, but I held a steady 9:03 average pace. Immediately after running I worked for about 2 hours finishing our own lawn projects. Once back inside our cool house I rolled and stretched for 10 minutes each.
Even though I normally try to avoid running back-to-back days, I ran at 5:30 AM to not only beat the heat, but to get my run behind me before blowing out and flat ironing my hair prior to dinner with my girlfriends who I hadn’t seen for 2 years. Ain’t nobody got time to do their hair and then let the humidity turn it into a frizzy mess less than 12 hours later during a run. LOL
A couple of hours after my run I lifted weights for an hour and then rolled for 10 minutes and stretched for 10 minutes.
Even though it would have been a good day to hop on my spin bike (affiliate link) I wasn’t motivated, and instead, took a complete rest day from working out!
I completed a hour of unilateral upper body exercises working my right side only alternating upper body and legs. As with most Fridays, I taught my balance and stretching class which includes 45 minutes of weight bearing leg exercises, balance drills, and stretching, most of which I do with my students.
We started the morning with a 7:20 AM family bike ride on the W&OD Trail. It was super fun having the kids along and keeping it shorter was a good test for my shoulder. It was already 73° and very humid, but with it forecast to hit 90 by 10 AM, it made sense to get out early. We stopped for coffee in Leesburg before turning around and swinging by for a picture of Bill in front of the bike shop where he had picked up his new Cannondale Topstone gravel bike on Friday. I’m still shopping for mine and have a few more to test ride.
We kept our ride at 18 miles and maintained a 15 MPH average speed. My Garmin (affiliate link) showed 14.96 MPH and the Garmin app rounded it up to 15, but Strava rounded it down to 14.8.
