It’s time to sit down once again with a beverage of your choice and chat – I’ll remind you that I don’t like coffee or tea so my drink of choice today will be water. Let’s chat about things other than just running, cycling, strength training, yoga, and complaining about our most recent injuries. Sound good? I’ll go first…

If we were having coffee…..
I’d tell you that Kim just happened to mention to me that she was running the Kickoff to Kinnick 5K virtually. When she reminded me that it’s the race that raises money for the University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital, I jumped at the chance to join her for this virtual race! There’s a special place in my heart for this hospital that I’ll talk about on Sunday in my Weekly RunDown. It’s been about a year since I’ve done a virtual race with a blogger friend and I can’t wait to see what kind of shenanigans we can get into while running this very beneficial race!

If we were having coffee…..
I’d tell you that Bill and I are planning a fun bike ride with our Dawn Patrol friends for January. It’s still in the works, but the plan is to fly to Miami and then ride from Miami to Key West. And yes, that includes riding a bicycle across Seven Mile Bridge over the ocean!

If we were having coffee…..
I’d tell you that it’s been a very busy week of gardening, specifically pruning our foundation plants, replacing a dying bush, and shaping the topiary puffballs on each side of our front doors. I hate those topiaries, not because of the way they look, but because of the amount of time it takes to keep them shaped. The one on the right gets wild hair that grows straight up and the one on the left just keeps ballooning outward until Deborah Sissorhands gets ahold of them! ✂️✂️✂️

And speaking of gardening, if we were having coffee…..
I’d tell you that I had the most beautiful pink impatiens that I moved from our deck to our patio. I didn’t take a picture, thinking that I’d do it the following morning. Well, here’s the picture from the following morning (yesterday). Looks like the deer had an overnight feast! I didn’t get mad and couldn’t help but laugh. Turns out, the deer did me a favor since I’d need to be cutting them back soon after the first frost.

If we were having coffee…..
I’d tell you that following the gardening theme, I found this fun fall garden flag (affiliate link) that fits perfectly in our gnome themed rock garden.

And this great fall bicycle flag (affiliate link)…

If we were having coffee…..
I’d tell you that Wendy and Marcia talking about their streets getting repaved reminds me off a funny story. Our street also desperately needs to be repaved and until this summer, had three large potholes. One night while driving into our neighborhood, Bill and I decided to mark all three potholes on Waze. After that, every time I came into our neighborhood I’d make sure Waze was open so I could mark them again, and about two weeks later, VDOT filled the potholes. I’m not taking credit for getting them taken care of, but it does seem like more than a coincidence. I think VDOT monitors Waze for such things!

And finally, if we were having coffee…..
I’d ask if you have any races coming up, and if so, are they still going to be held live or have they switched to virtual? No matter what type of race you might be running, have fun and stay safe!

Today I’m joining Deborah at Confessions Of A Mother Runner and Coco at Running With Perseverance for their monthly Ultimate Coffee Date linkup which goes live the first Friday of every month.  Be sure to stop by their blogs for a cup of coffee and to say hello; and while you’re there, be sure to check out some of the other bloggers who are participating in the linkup.

  • Questions:
  • • What do you think, do you think us marking the potholes had anything to do with them getting filled?
  • • Do you have any fall gardening projects you’re working on?
  • • If we were having coffee, what would you tell me?
