Four Generations Together

My oldest son and I took Baby Bean to the farm to visit my mom Tuesday through Thursday. Needless to say, Mom was thrilled to meet her great-grandson and I got precious pictures of her holding him plus a wonderful four generations photo. The normal drive to the farm is about six hours and adding stops to feed a baby just extends the trip. Baby Bean did great and only fused about ten minutes in each direction.

Between running errands for mom, doing a few chores around her house, helping care for the baby, and doing lots of cooking, I didn’t have the time or energy to workout. I treated the time away from the gym and my bike as a mini reset and my body appreciated it.

Overview of the Week

Before discussing each day’s workouts, here’s an overview of my workouts from this past week. Scroll down for daily details…

Sunday

Rest day

Monday

Running: 5K
Average pace: 9:05
Start time: 5:412 AM
Location: neighborhood circle
Weather: 57° and a light breeze
What I wore: shorts, tank, and gloves

The warm weather was a pleasant surprise when I checked the temperature prior to my run. My run felt great, but my stomach didn’t and I had to swing by the house for a pit stop between my last two miles.

Strength Training: 1 hour of total body

Foam rolling: 10 minutes

Stretching: 10 minutes

Tuesday

Travel day

Wednesday

Walking: 2 miles
Average pace: 14:35
Start time: 2:13 PM
Location: gravel road at the farm
Weather: 63° and sunny
What I wore: capris, s/s t-shirt, nylon shell jacket (took jacket off after first mile)

It was a gorgeous fall day on the farm when I headed out for my walk. I marveled at how much further along the leaf color was in the higher elevation in southwest Virginia and thought a lot about my dad who loved fall. It’s hard to believe that it was eight years ago last week that he passed away rather suddenly (he was sick for about three weeks with pneumonia)…

Thursday

Travel day

Friday

Strength Training: 1 hour of total body

Balance and Stretching: 45 minutes

Saturday

Running: 5K
Average pace: 9:08
Start time: 7:42 AM
Location: neighborhood circle
Weather: 55° and misty
What I wore: shorts, tank, and gloves

With Baby Bean’s baptism scheduled for later in the morning, I didn’t have time to go for a bike ride so I ran instead. Having not run or biked since Monday, my legs felt fresh and I wished I had time to run farther. I circled back around after my run and took a picture of our neighbors’ Halloween decorations and then did a quarter-mile cool down walk home.

Foam rolling: 10 minutes

Stretching: 10 minutes

Last Week’s Blog Posts

In case you skipped checking in on my blog this past week, here’s what you missed…

 Questions:
  • • Do your workouts suffer when you travel? ~ Mine rarely suffer and this was an exception.
  • • If you participate in Halloween, what are your plans? ~ I put together 40 bags of assorted fun size candy bars that we’ll hand out tonight. Pablo and his humans plan to come help us hand out the bags of candy.
  • • Did you run in a race this weekend? If so, was it live or virtual?

And that’s my rundown… Have a great week!
