It’s time to sit down once again with a beverage of your choice and chat – I’ll remind you that I don’t like coffee or tea so my drink of choice today will be water. Let’s chat about things other than just running, cycling, strength training, yoga, and our most recent injuries. Sound good? I’ll go first…
If we were having coffee…..
I’d tell you that today’s greeting come to you from Utah! After spending close to a week in the desert of southern Utah, we’re now in Logan, home of Utah State University where my husband got his masters degree many years ago. In fact, we got married and moved to Utah less than a month later. We’ve spent the week with a dear grad school friend and three other couples who descended onto his house – five couples total. What a fun week!
If we were having coffee…..
I’d tell you that today we’re leaving Utah for ice capped mountains, although we did see some snow on the Wasatch and Wellsville Mountains. It seems odd to be traveling on Independence Day, but that’s just the way our schedule worked out best. I’ll miss our annual covered bridges ride and neighborhood barbecue in the evening, but plan to enjoy the fireworks in a city far away from home.
If we were having coffee…..
I’d tell you that I’m still keeping busy working out while traveling. In fact, we plan our vacations around good places to ride our bikes and great photography opportunities for my husband. We almost always stay in either Marriott properties or Airbnb’s. Marriotts routinely have nice gyms and I carry my little bag of tubes and bands with me on trips when I know we’ll be staying in an Airbnb where there most likely won’t be workout equipment.
June saw a 1-mile run to celebrate Global Running Day, more hiking than normal, some decent cycling, about half my usual walking miles, and my normal amount of time strength training. Here’s how the month shook out…
If we were having coffee…..
I’d tell you that I only had time to read one book this past month and it’s not even available on Amazon.

Today I’m joining Deborah at Confessions Of A Mother Runner and Coco at Running With Perseverance for their monthly Ultimate Coffee Date linkup which goes live the first Friday of every month. Be sure to stop by their blogs for a cup of coffee and to say hello; and while you’re there, be sure to check out some of the other bloggers who are participating in the linkup.
- Questions:
- • Have you ever been to Utah? ~ We lived in Utah for two years in the early 80’s when we were first married and visited in 2018 and 2019.
- • If you live in the USA, how are you celebrating Independence Day?
- • If we were having coffee, what would you tell me?

Ah, I haven’t been back to Utah in a few years now but it was definitely a beautiful place to explore! I plan my vacations around pretty places to hike for built-in exercise, so definitely can relate, hehe. :]
Hope you have a great weekend!
Farrah, I thought of you while in southern Utah!
Happy Independence Day!
I have no doubt that you keep very busy while traveling! Enjoy the rest of your travels and adventures
Thanks, Deborah! Happy Independence Day!
How cool that you could reconnect with “old” friends! Sounds like such a fun and full week, Debbie!
Planning vacations around ride routes and photo ops is such a smart combo. Clearly, you two have it dialled in.
Love the photo of your water bottle this month!
Thanks, Catrina! At the last minute before leaving southern Utah I happened to remember our coffee date coming up and snapped the picture.
We had the most incredible week with our friends! It was non-stop fun and laughter, delicious food, too much drinking, but plenty of exercise.
I haven’t spent much time in Utah except for skiing. Looks gorgeous!
I am sure you will have a fantastic 4th our there.
Yes, the scenery is very different between winter and summer in Utah.
Happy Independence Day!
You’ve definitely kept busy! Look at all those miles on the bike(s)! I’m looking forward to a long bike ride with friends in a short while…of course, I’ll be sporting my star-spangled jersey 😉 Enjoy your Utah fireworks!
Have fun on your bike ride today! Happy Independence Day, Kim!
This trip sounds INCREDIBLE. I was actually in Salt Lake City for one day, years ago, so I don’t really count that. Utah is probably #1 on my wishlist for travel right now. I’m glad you’re having so much fun, and I hope you get to see fireworks tonight!
I love your travel adventures! Have you been to all 50 states?
We have not. We’ve not been to Alaska and I haven’t been to any of the gulf coast states except Florida. We’re also missing Rhode Island, Wisconsin, and Michigan.
You know, I think I would love to visit Utah, but I don’t think I would love living there. It does always look so beautiful.
I love picking vacation spots based on “adventure” activities as well. I am sometimes outvoted by the boys, but that’s ok.
We didn’t do much for the holiday.
We enjoyed living in Utah, but we were in the university setting so it was very different for us, and we made the most of the many outdoor activities available there (I learned to cross country ski). At the time I was homesick for my family and was more than ready to move back to the east coast.
Played golf and read a book. Our usual July 4 10K was moved to Saturday due to harbor closures for the fireworks
My reading has been off kilter but getting back
I have been to although mostly through Utah. Still need to do the parks
Sounds like a nice weekend!
