We’re in the car making the six-hour drive home from my mom’s house so I have plenty of time to write this week’s recap. Here goes…

It’s that time of year where the calories flow and self control is tested, and Monday put me to the first test of the season. One of my clients arrived Monday morning with these little homemade goodies. She fully disclosed that these were gifted to her, but since I’d have the kids in town she decided to pass them along rather than keep the temptations at her house. I ate the blue frosted sugar cookie and a little butterscotch caramel and passed the test, until yesterday…

Tuesday morning I met my friends for my only run with them of the week. I wore my new Santa capris (affiliate link) that had just arrived the day before. I bought them for only $12.59 on Amazon and when they arrived, one leg says HO! HO! HO! and the other leg says !OH !OH !OH which was clearly noticeable in the picture online (but I didn’t notice it),  As my mom would say, “You get what you pay for.”

My friends are meeting this morning for a Christmas Eve run followed by coffee and I’m suffering a bit of FOMO as we drive home from visiting my mom.

Pictured below are the other cheap capris I ordered. These have snowflakes on them so there was no chance for words spelled in reverse. 😉

Thursday morning we had an uneventful drive to my mom’s house (thank goodness it was uneventful after hitting last week’s ice storm). Since we were traveling super early on Thursday morning I didn’t run, and instead, ran on Friday morning. It was cold when I left but I immediately turned around and put my jacket back in the house because without any noticeable wind I knew I’d get too hot. It ended up being a really good call and I had a very enjoyable and comfortable run.

I only saw two cars while out on my run and in one was an aunt, and in the other was an uncle. Bill says that I’m related to everyone in that little community and he’s almost right!

Usually when I run past these horses a couple of miles into my run they either ignore me or run away. This time I just happened to make a clicking noice with my tongue and they came running toward me. Apparently they’re called to eat with that clicking sound. This horse was the friendliest and didn’t mind that I made fun of its frizzy blonde mane.

When I ran past he horses my own ponytail bounced a friendly hello and I think they were impressed.

Friday afternoon our sons and daughter-in-law arrived at my mom’s house for a fun-filled two days.

With no takes on a running partner, Saturday morning I headed out for a solo run, again running past the neighbor’s horses. As I approached the paddock making the clicking sound, the horses came running. They posed for a picture and then begged for a selfie!

Who was I to ignore their wishes?

While finishing up my run, Bill happened to be walking down the road toward me. He pulled out his camera and shot several pictures of me approaching. Sometimes it’s nice having my own paparazzi!

After my run, my mom and I continued our cooking marathon and before we knew it, most of the rest of our family had arrived, including my adorable great niece and nephew. Nothing makes the holidays more special than having a two and a four year old as part of the celebration!

As the day progressed, Mom got the goodies out. She’d made fourteen different types of fudges and cookies, each delicious, and each my favorite. I helped her assemble twelve goodie trays with her homemade treats to take to her neighbors and family. Of course there were plenty of sweets left for us to nibble on and I can’t say that my willpower lasted past Saturday afternoon…

And in case you missed it on the blog, this past week I posted:

Looking ahead to this coming week, on Monday I’ll have a short Christmas wish, on Wednesday I hope to post my Year of Running 2017, on Thursday I plan to join in on the Runfessions fun, and on Saturday I’ll have a throwback recap of the 2o11 Ringing In Hope 10K.

Here’s a run-down of my workouts from this past week…

Fitness tools beyond the equipment in my gym that I used during the week included:

Cameras used for blog photography include:

  • Questions:
  • Have you made any four-legged friends on a run?
  • How’s your willpower this time of year? ~ I have a sweet tooth a mile long that I can keep reined in as long as I don’t get started; however, once I get started…
  • Did you race this weekend? Were there any races?

Have a great week!
