2014 Running Resolutions

Without goals we stumble through life without a plan…

Keeping my 2014 goals in mind, I’ve been playing around with my 2014 race scheduled.  So without further ado, here are the races I plan to run this year!

February – Run Your Heart Out 5K
March – Reston 10-Miler
April – Hungry Mother Half Marathon
May – TKO Melanoma 5K
June – Virginia Wine Country Half Marathon
June – Varmint Half Marathon
July – Firecracker 5K
September – Hokie Half Marathon
October – Lake Fairfax Backyard Burn Ten-Mile Trail Run
November – Thanksgiving Day 5K or 10K
December – Run With Santa 5K

Here’s to a happy and healthy 2014
for all of my running buddies, readers, family, and friends!

  • Questions:
  • What are your 2014 running and fitness goals?
  • Will you be running in any of the races I plan to run?  If so, let me know!
  • Who raced this morning?

Ohh, good list and GREAT goals! I can’t wait to see how you do this year. Maybe some day we’ll make it down to VA to visit family and we could run together. Though I imagine for you it would be closer to walking at the pace I run. LOL

    • Deb Runs says:

Yes, let me know if you’re ever down this way. And don’t put yourself down, you’re relatively new to running. You’ll most likely get faster, and if you don’t, so be it. Just have fun!

  2. Becky says:

My first one is to finish the marathon in one piece! I’d love to run a sub two hour half and I plan on coming to more of those Cruiser events too :)

    • Deb Runs says:

Those are great goals, Becky! The Cruiser events I’m hoping to add more of are things like breakfast after a run every-other-month, and a spring martini tasting party!

  3. Vamshi says:

My goal is to run a total of 500 or more miles in 2014.

  4. Linda says:

Awesome list, Deb! How about the Charlottesville 10-miler at the end of March? You would love this race. It will be my 8th year running it.

  5. Love the goals. Pretty busy racing schedule that one of yours

  6. Happy New Year! Great goals! I would also like to run a sub-2 hour half marathon this year. I came within 10 seconds last year so I know it’s possible.

You are so organized with your planning! I am seriously thinking about running a marathon this year (my first in about 7 years), but I haven’t a clue which one I want to do.

    • Deb Runs says:

You know you can run that sub-2! The only California marathon I’ve run is Big Sur. It was breathtakingly beautiful!

  7. Fantastic goals! I’m sure you’re going to smash them! Have a great 2014!

  8. Amy says:

Happy New Year! I wish I was running some of your races AND lived near you for a blogger running meet-up. Maybe you need a trip back to Colorado sometime this year???

    • Deb Runs says:

We were just talking about heading back out west for a visit earlier this evening. We’re looking at summer 2015.

  9. those are some AWESOME goals!! Happy New Year to you and here’s to some kickbutt running! :)

Complete the Tallahassee half in 2< hours.
Will you be running in any of the races I plan to run? If so, let me know!
Trying to talk a group into the Virginia Wine Half.
    Who raced this morning?
No race this morning but I do train every evening(try)

    • Deb Runs says:

Rich, since you’re thinking of running the Virginia Wine Country Half Marathon, you might be interested in reading my recaps from 2013, 2012, and 2011.

Hope you meet your sub two-hour goal at the Tallahassee Half!

  11. Love all of your running goals for 2014! Hope I can join you for some races and meet-ups this year!

  12. Those are great goals! I’ve never actually met another running blogger. That would be so much fun to do! Love your other goals as well.

  13. Stephanie@nowiun.com says:

Last night I read your post but didn’t comment b/c I was on my phone… 4 half marathons! Rock on! I look forward to reading about your outings with the Cruisers! :)

  14. These are great goals! Here are a few of mine:

    -run a sub-1:45 half marathon
    -run a sub-1:20 10-miler
    -avoid major injury
    -really, truly commit to cross-training
-come up with the next big idea to follow my blindfolded half marathon in the fight against rare diseases

Best of luck to you as you chase your running goals, and best wishes for a fantastic 2014!

Great goals for the year! I haven’t set a lot of running goals, spent most of last year injured and started out the year that way too, so my biggest goal is to be back to running healthy and STRONG. so tired of this injury stuff.

  16. Meagan says:

We potentially overlap on four races!! Hungry Mother (I looked into this one after you mentioned it), Virginia Wine Country, Varmint, and Hokie Half! It’ll be great to get to see each other at these races. Can I talk you out of marathon retirement so you can come do Marine Corps in October?? :)

    • Deb Runs says:

MCM is so tempting; especially since I have the guaranteed entry…

      • Meagan says:

I meant to ask if that still applies, even with the new lottery system. It would be kind of crappy of them to end the guaranteed entry thing. I am hoping to guarantee my entry in April :)

        • Deb Runs says:

Hmmm… I got the guaranteed entry invitation last year. When did the lottery system start? If it’s starting this year, then I can’t be assured that I have guaranteed entry, but I would assume so.

          • Meagan says:

The lottery starts this year… I think it opens mid-February?

            • Deb Runs says:

Hmmm… I haven’t been contacted by the MCM staff with any changes and the website still says, “Runners who have completed at least five Marine Corps Marathons are eligible to join the MCM Runners Club and receive a guaranteed entry into the marathon for life.”Join the MCM Runners Club and receive a guaranteed entry into the marathon for life.” I thought it was ten MCM’s, but it looks like it’s only five!
