Inspired by yesterday’s news about the Mediterranean diet, I allowed myself to only put heart-healthy fresh fruits, veggies, and salmon in my shopping cart during today’s visit to Costco. Considering my chocolate/vanilla swirl frozen yogurt didn’t make it into my cart, I kept to my promise! 🙂
I walked into the wellness center this afternoon and was treated with this beautiful new stone wall! The doctor told me that this was in the works, but I had no idea how cool it was going to look!
While I was admiring the wall, the doctor’s 74 year old mom came up to me and said that when she was little, she learned a little poem which she recited to me. It goes like this:
Good, better, best
Never let it rest
Let your good be better
And your better will be best!
Here are my good, better, best thoughts related to everyday health:
Good – go for walk/run and eat healthy
Better – go for walk/run with a friend, eat healthy, and drink plenty of water
Best – go for walk/run with a friend, do a little yoga, eat healthy, drink plenty of water, and get a good night’s sleep
Gotta go work out! I didn’t fit it in this morning, but it’s not too late!
- Questions:
- What are your good, better, bests?
- Do you have any childhood inspirational sayings that still guide you today?
- Do you prefer to workout in the morning or evening?
I’ve always really felt a connection with the quote “The vision of a champion is someone who is bent over, drenched in sweat, at the point of exhaustion, when no one else is watching.” When I first heard it, I was playing competitive sports in high school and college and definitely applied it literally, but now that I’m out in the “real world” I find it really motivational for my every day life.
I’ve been working out in the mornings lately because I have a really hard time heading back out after I get home from work, but on weekends I lounge around all morning and run in the afternoons.
Good, better, best. Oh gosh, I love this. I’m really going to start to incorporate it into everyday life. what a great idea!
I’m mostly a night-time exerciser! 🙂
You get bonus points for exercising in the evening!!! Most people get home from work and just collapse…
We should also probably go get some Costco frozen yogurt after one of our summer runs too!!
Although I do not have many sayings from my childhood that I hold onto today, I have several fitness mantras that run through my mind during long runs or other workouts (although I cannot seem to remember many of them now). They really help me get through tough workouts, and I am always looking for new ones! Maybe you could post about some of your favorites?
ha you just made me miss having a costco membership…man I love getting huge bags of frozen veggies there!
That sign is so great, I wish everyone practiced medicine that way
Thanks for stopping by my blog, Amanda! Yes, I’m all about preventative medicine! I love our doctor’s philosophy. The fact that he has a gym as part of his medical practice says a lot about him. 🙂
I prefer morning workouts…
Love the little song from when you were young 🙂 Sometimes things like that (really important things) stick with you.
That doctor’s sign was right on, wasn’t it?
