We had downpours of rain last night and the creek behind my house was flowing fast, but luckily the rain had stopped by morning. Susan and I were able to meet to run and were surprised that the trail was in pretty good shape. In years past I ran in every kind of weather except ice, or if the snow was so deep that I looked like a deer loping along. My very first marathon and my PR marathon were both in the pouring rain and I loved it! I loved the fact that the rain kept me cool, and I think that I stayed more focused on getting the job done as quickly as possible, so I could get out of the rain! 🙂 These days I don’t like running in the rain and will usually stay indoors and either use my elliptical or my stationary bike.
As Susan and I were running along we saw a family of four deer. They were just standing along the trail looking at us. I got a quick shot of this guy before he turned to start eating again.
My hubby was home at lunch time today and we made a yummy salad with grilled chicken, baby spinach, grape tomatoes, scallions, dried cranberries, and pecan halves. We drizzled a little olive oil and balsamic vinegar over them and pronounced them perfectly delicious!
Tonight I made the salmon and veggies that I bought at Costco yesterday. I rubbed a tiny bit of Wegman’s basting oil on the salmon, then put a little kosher salt and freshly ground pepper on it, and broiled it for ten minutes. I tossed the asparagus and peppers in a tiny bit of olive oil, then sprinkled kosher salt and freshly ground pepper on them, and roasted them at 425 degrees for twelve minutes. Yum, yum!
- Questions:
- Do you let bad weather keep you from running outside?
- What’s the wildest animal you’ve seen on a run? Me: several foxes
- If you live on the east coast, do you shop at Wegman’s?
I saw a moose once back when I lived in Colorado, but other than that mostly just deer. We did see a huge fluffy fox right near the Lincoln Memorial in DC a week or two ago. That was crazy.
My husband and I saw a huge bull moose when we were hiking up to Lake Solitude in the Tetons. He was standing on the trail and had no interest in moving out of our way, so we walked way off the trail to get around him!
Have a nice day!!
You inspired me to run/walk your trail today! I didn’t come across any deer but I did see two geese, a rabbit, and several squirrels.
I have not been letting the weather get in the way of my training. It’s probably one of the things I’m most proud of when it comes to how I’ve prepared for this weekend’s run!
Wildest animal: I think I saw a tarantula on my run last summer. Does that count? To me it does!!!!!!
Stephanie, where is your race and what distance? I’ve been so busy that I haven’t been following my friends’ blogs for a couple of days. I’ll pop in now, though! 🙂 Good luck this weekend!
I’m usually not afraid of spiders, but I would totally faint if I saw a tarantula while out on my run!!!
