I stopped by my favorite local running store today to pick up new shoes. I was fitted in Asics before my first marathon, and I’ve worn them ever since. My last several pairs have been gray or black, so I may be disappointed with how quickly these get dirty; and how big they make my size 9.5 feet look. For now, I think they are beautiful!
I ordered new Pro Compression pink marathon socks today since the running store doesn’t carry them. I loved wearing my hubby’s after my long run on Saturday and decided that I definitely need a pair of my own, that actually fit!
I had planned to pick up the Wrightsock Anti-Blister Double Layer Running II Quarter Socks that I’ve worn for 15 years, but they didn’t have my size. I love these socks because the two thin layers of fabric rub against each other instead of the sock against your skin, and they really are blister free!
After my first marathon I had a couple of blisters on my toes; and after the JFK 50-Miler, I had a blood blister the size of Rhode Island on the bottom of my foot. The following spring at the Boston Marathon Expo, I saw the Wrights socks for the first time and bought them. The next morning when I started to put them on before the race, my husband questioned if it was a good idea to wear something I’d never experimented with on a long run. He had an excellent point, but my comeback was that it couldn’t be any worse than the blisters I’d gotten at my two previous races. I wore them, and haven’t had a blister since!
After a winter of practically no snow, we had a late season snow this morning. I took this photo of these jonquils at one of my client’s houses. They must be as confused as the robins in my back yard are!
All I can say is, “Remember these trees, because you will be seeing them again soon!” They are in the front yard of a house that I drive by once a week on my way to a client’s house (I used to train the owner of these trees as well). In less than a month, they will be exploding with gorgeous pink blooms!
Tonight is the grand-finale of The Biggest Loser. Who’s watching? Tomorrow I will write about it, and tell you my thoughts on the show. Most people seem to either love it or hate it.
- Questions:
- What shoes do you love to run in?
- Do you have any great tips on running socks?
- Will you watch The Biggest Loser tonight?
All I wear are Asics! Been wearing them for 10 years and wont ever change now!
My Momma bought those running shoes on Sunday!! Twins 🙂
I recently bought new running shoes and they are Asics keyano gel (i think that is how it is spelled?). I was lifetime new balance, but I wanted to try a new brand and I am glad I did. These Asics have given me no problems so far. I bought a couple different types of running socks when I bought my shoes, but I can’t remember their names, I know one started with a B? I know that doesn’t help. I will let you know when I go check tonight. My husband and I used to watch BL for years, but the last couple seasons we have skipped it.
Are your socks by Balga? If so, I have a pair and really like them, but they don’t make them in double layer (which works so well during really long runs).
Yes that’s it! What brands have the double layer? Those might be good for my long runs. Even though right now my long runs are only 5-6 miles but I’m working up to 10.
The only double layer I’ve ever seen are Wright socks. I provided a link to Amazon in my post, but your local running store might carry them. My store only had size small, and I’m a medium. They said that they weren’t sure if they would be carrying them going forward… 🙁
I think I need compression socks. Maybe for my birthday!
I love the biggest loser and I am so happy about the outcome. Two of my favorite people on the show were in the final 3. My other favorite almost won the at-home prize (she looked amazing). Can’t wait to read your post.
P.S.
I wear an 11.5-12 so I understand completely how shoes can make your feet look a little like skis and not feet!
I can’t wait for my compression socks to arrive! I used the coupon code and clicked through the link that Elizabeth (My Neon Running Shoes) posted and got $20 off! 🙂
Ah I watched the BL up until Danni came out (and oh my gosh was she smokin’!) – I didn’t watch any of the final weigh ins yet, though.
I love it when you find a running shoe/brand that just works for you. That’s how I am with Brooks. My sister is a big Asics fan.
I might have to try out those socks! I get HORRIBLE blood blisters (and often get blisters under my calluses, which is just really unfair)…I switched to SmartWool PhD socks and that seems to have helped significantly, but I still get blisters when I run really hard or fast.
You know, we work really hard to build up those calluses, and life is just not fair when they do not do their job! I actually yelled, “Stop!” at a nail salon when I was treating myself to a pedicure and the lady was ready to start shaving off my calluses. I told her I’d worked way to long to build those up to protect my feet for her to shave them off! 🙂
And yes, Dani was smokin’ hot, but what was up with her hair? Sorry that was a little catty, but…. She was my favorite all season, but since you haven’t watched to the end yet, I won’t spoil it by telling you how she did.
Hooray for new shoes! Are the GT-2000 the new version of the GT-2170’s? I currently run in the 2170s (and started running in this line of Asics when they were on 2140’s) and love them. I always fear change when they come out with a new version.
Are those dogwood trees? It’s hard to tell with no leaves. As a native Virginian I better be able to spot a dogwood, though 🙂
I run in Feetures brand running socks (they’re actually at the bottom of your sock picture) and they work well for me.
I am a fan of the Biggest Loser and I watched the finale last night! The contestant I rooted for from day 1 won, yay!
Yes, the GT-2000 are the new version of the GT-2170’s; or at least that’s what the running store told me. I have been wearing this series since 1997 and I think they were 1870’s or something back then! 🙂 There was one year that I didn’t like the new version because the toe box was too narrow, so I switched over to the Asis Kayano until the next shoe came out.
The trees in the picture are flowering cherries. They are absolutely gorgeous when in full bloom. I’ll post a picture in a few weeks!
