It’s the Memorial Day weekend and many of our Cruisers are traveling, so we had a lean group of three meet this morning for our weekly group run. Add the cold temps to the mix and at least one other Cruiser decided to stay in his warm bed! 🙂 It was 45 degrees when I met Vamshi and Amit at the W&OD Trail. And yes, I had on my gloves!
After about three miles, I warmed up and took my gloves and jacket off and ran in my tank top. To show you how blustery it was, I took a picture of these pennant flags blowing in the wind.
We started out on our ten-mile run together, but early on Amit told Vamshi and me to run ahead. Amit wanted to run a slower pace without stopping and knew that I would have to stop at least twice at the porta-potties! He’s a smart guy!
Once Vamshi and I took off, it became a game of The Tortoise and the Hare…
Vamshi and I ran at a decent pace the first half (downhill and with the wind at our backs), while Amit kept a slightly slower pace. Vamshi and I stopped four times, while Amit didn’t stop at all. After our stops, we would gain on Amit until we could see him ahead and just as we would get pretty close, we would stop again while he kept ambling along.
Guess who finished first? Yep, you guessed it! Amit finished about one minute before we did.
In the end, we all felt great and were so happy to run without the humidity from earlier this week. Next Saturday the three of us will be running in the Virginia Wine Country Half-Marathon with about eight other Cruisers friends. I can’t wait to tell you about this race. It’s one of my favorites!
- Question:
- What’s the weather like where you live?
- Tell me about your run today.
- Would you be the tortoise or the hare?
Ah, this gives me hope for my slow ass self 🙂
It looks like the three of you had a nice day despite the weather! We’re cold and blustery here too, in Edmonton.
It is crazy how I was nearly melting in the humidity earlier this week and now it’s cold enough for a long sleeve and gloves! We had some really windy weather yesterday and are also having mildly windy weather today.
Hah- slow and steady wins the race! I have run in races where I kept passing someone who would run and then stop to walk whereas I would just be running a steady state. It gets annoying to continually go back and forth, but I don’t hold them personally accountable for that… it’s just a matter of having different running styles. But still annoying.
The half marathon next weekend sounds like it’s going to be lots of fun! I raced a 10K this morning but you will have to wait for my race report to hear about it. You’re on the edge of your seat, I’m sure. 🙂
HaHa! I remember that happening in a few marathon. There would be a group of people doing the run/walk method, but their average pace would be the very same as my pace. Just as they would catch up with me, their watch would beep telling them it was time for them to walk. That would happen over and over and over….
So cute! I miss hearing names like Vamshi and Amit. I was teaching in southeastern MI for 6 years before we moved to AZ. Though there are new and beautiful cultures to learn about here, I miss the Indian and Muslim names, faces, and religious differences that I experienced in MI.
