Sometimes I pull the trigger on my Friday Five post late on Thursday evening and publish it, but usually I’m a rule follower and publish my linkup on Friday. Friday Five, get it. This week I’m way behind on life, so I’m lucky to get this week’s written by Saturday mid-day.
It’s time I’m late to the party for Friday Five linkup with DC area bloggers Courtney at Eat Pray Run DC, Cynthia at You Signed Up for What?!, and Mar at Mar on the Run! Be sure to stop by their blogs and say hello!
1. My most important item in my bag is my iPhone. All of my appointments are on that little time-sucking device. Of course, all of my fun time-sucking apps (LIKE INSTAGRAM, TWITTER, and FACEBOOK) are on there, too!
If I’d chosen to list what’s in my running bag that I take with me to races or runs that don’t start from my house, it would include:
- Sunscreen
- ChapStick with sunscreen
- Body Glide
- Towels
- Mylar blanket (from a previous marathon)
- Questions:
- What’s in your gym bag?
- How often do you need to air your gym bag out?
- Who’s racing this weekend?
You’re inspiring me to clean out my gym bag (actually swim bag, because that’s where I haul it the most). It’s way too heavy! I keep my suit, swim cap, goggles, lap-counter, shampoo, heavy-duty conditioner, a towel, chlorine-smell-canceling shower gel. Right before heading over there, I add my makeup and hair dryer right before heading out. You can see why it’s a haul!
Have a great weekend — I hope you are continuing to heal!

Wow, you do carry a lot in your gym bag. You get a great workout just carrying it!
i love to reuse old mylar blankets too! we’re happy to have you link up – whenever you do it 🙂

Thanks, Courtney. This was a fun prompt, and one I didn’t want to miss!
I agree with you about the iPhone…time-sucking but oh so necessary too. I run so much before daylight, I forget about sunscreen when I need it. I ran a well-attended 5k this a.m. The weather was nice. My 8:30 pace was slower than last year, but I had fun. Lots of friends!

8:30 is a respectable pace, but I understand always trying to beat my previous race times (especially on the same course).
Would love to try a body fat measure… its been a while and I am sure I have more muscle than fat. I clean my gym bag as soon as I get home, so it never gets too smelly or dirty!

You might be able to have it tested at your local gym. If you’re a member, they might even do it for free.
Yes! Definitely not what I would have expected. That’s cool that you have a body fat tester!

The body fat monitor is just another tool for tracking my clients’ progress. My favorite, though, is asking them how their pants fit!
ooh I think I am glad that my trainer doesn’t carry a body fat checker :). Have a great weekend!

I use the body fat monitor for a baseline on most (but not all) of my clients. Then I do follow-ups at around three/six months, and whenever my clients request it.
hmm, I should try that Gold Bond hand cream. In the winter especially I can NEVER keep my hands moisturized enough!

Give it a try, I think you’ll like it.
I don’t have a gym bag, either. Back in the day my ‘gym bag’ would have included a cap and goggles, fins, a pull bouy, and a towel 🙂 My must haves (lately) for a race: handheld water bottle, camera, ID, and a jacket.

How did I miss adding a camera to my running bag list?
I reuse my old mylar blankets as well as bag check bags (I usually do not check.. so I use it for shoes or dirty clothes).

So this is reminding me that I was supposed to acquire a gym bag in order to start going to the gym as my new year’s resolution then I strained my knee skiing and have spent the new year thus far sitting on my arse. So the only thing in my gym bag right now is HOPE! 😉

Hope – that’s a very a very good thing to have in your gym bag. That, and a knee brace. Hope you recover quickly!
Chapstik is so essential!
