It’s time for Friday Five linkup with DC area bloggers Courtney at Eat Pray Run DC, Cynthia at You Signed Up for What?!, and Mar at Mar on the Run! Be sure to stop by their blogs and say hello! This week, the DC Trifecta chose Things About Me to be this week’s Friday Five theme.
Did you know?
1. I love planning events, and whether it’s setting up a breakfast with the Cruisers after a long run, planning a Friday evening happy hour with my girlfriends, or organizing a destination run with my friend Miles and his running group, I’m the person to volunteer to get it done. And I’ll love every minute of the planning!
2. As much as I love planned events, I love doing spur of the moment things. When a friend calls up on Friday afternoon to see if Bill and I want to get together that night, I’m all over it!
3. I love organization and even though a few spots in my house might look like a tornado hit, the majority of my cabinets and closets are pretty well organized. My kitchen pantry looks like the crew from HGTV set it up for a photo shoot, and just last week, I almost pulled an all-nighter reorganizing my storage room in the basement.
4. As much as I thrive on cleanliness, my SUV dash is dusty, the windows are streaked, the outside is covered in road salt, and if you dig deep under the driver seat you might find a dried up carrot or french fry. I love a clean house, but for some reason a dirty car doesn’t bother me. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not messy, there’s no trash in it – it’s just rarely sparkly clean.
5. I’m a family kind of girl, and would rather hang out with Bill and the kids, than anything else. Sitting around the table, enjoying life with adult sons, and now a daughter-in-law, is truly a fun evening for this girl!
- Questions:
- Do you prefer planned activities or spur of the moment things?
- Is the inside of your car clean or dirty right now?
- Are you racing this weekend?
I LOVE spur of the moment activities, but I feel bad asking anyone else because it seems everyone I know always needs to plan everything way in advance. Well I just got my car washed so the inside is pretty clean (included in the basic wash). David always brings things inside if I leave clutter in the car. Before I was with him and we shared cars, my car would be filled with clutter.

Well, if we lived near each other, you could ask me at the last minute to go out to lunch and I’d probably say yes! 🙂
I used to love spur of the moment, but it’s hard for me with dietary restrictions and some other stuff, so mostly now everything is planned.
The inside of my car is a little bit messy and a little bit dusty. But I suspect clean in terms of most people’s, especially so compared to DH.
No races this weekend. Enjoy your weekend!

My husband and I are the opposite – his car is clean and mine is dirty. Dirty, not cluttery.
I like a good mix of planned and spur of the moment. The inside of my car is always clean but only because my husband is so anal about keeping the cars clean. If it were up to me, I prob wouldn’t clean it 🙂

At least he cleans it for you! 🙂
I love planning too and I hate the messy car. My kid know not to leave any crap in my car! Have a great day

Gotta keep those messy teens in line! 🙂 Once they start driving your cars, they’ll keep them spotless!
I love planning events as well (usually larger events) – showers, parties.

The first post I read of your blog was a recap of the shower you threw for your friend last spring or summer. 🙂
1. I like a plan in place, but in pencil, to let the good stuff you don’t plan for to happen.
2. The inside of my car looks like a college dorm room. I think one bag for trash and one for clothes ought to do it, though. I’m a minimalist stuck in a hoarder’s body.
3. No racing, not even any soccer. This weekend is the calm before the storm of the spring season!

“A minimalist stuck in a hoarder’s body” would be a great title for a future blog post! Do it!
The inside of my car doesn’t get cleaned as often as the outside, but I’m feeling pretty good about it today because I cleaned the floor mats yesterday. That’s a step in the right direction!

This time of year here in Virginia, I should be cleaning my car’s floor mats on a daily basis. They put sand down on our smaller streets when it snows, and it all gets tracked into my car, and then into my house. 🙁
I love planning events too. We do a murder mystery party at our home every year and I love the decorating, the costumes, and planning the menu!
Sounds fun!
So funny I think I’m the opposite – my car is my cleaner than my apartment! I absolutely prefer to plan things in advance. I’m not a very off-the-cuff person, which sucks, but spontaneity is really hard for me!

Thanks, Courtney! Hope your weekend was great as well!
There is absolutely nothing inside my car. Clean as a whistle. But, the outside hasn’t been washed in months and the wheels are so grimy. My house is not cluttered either, but it’s not clean. I’m the queen of “pick it up and put it up” but do not like housework!

I agree. I’d rather have my house tidy, but a little bit dusty, rather than clean and cluttered.
I’m def a planner. My hubby is the spontaneous one. And as much as I like the house and car clean, Im just can’t seem to find the time anymore. Looking in my bedroom right now makes me want to cry.

Turn a blind eye toward your bedroom, and enjoy those little ones while they’re young. They’ll grow up before you know it, and you’ll have plenty of time to keep your house like you want! Speaking from experience…
I love when you plan fun breakfasts after a long run too! 😛 I definitely enjoy hanging out with my family too! The other night I had dinner with my mom and step-dad Friday after work and it was great! 🙂

Those breakfasts are fun, aren’t they? 🙂 I need to talk to Miles and set a date for our next Pancake Run.
I have a clean car. I really like that and I can’t explain why. I’m not normally that organized.

I’m Type A, so I definitely prefer planned things over spur of the moment things. But Barry is very much the opposite of me, which is good, because he gets me to do more planned things. I’m good for him because I get him to pack for a trip more than 10 minutes in advance of when we leave.
I like a clean house, too, especially in my kitchen. But with 230 lbs. worth of slobbery dogs running around the house, I do the best I can but I don’t kill myself over it. Probably another thing that’s good for me 🙂

I would have loved to be a fly on your wall as you were planning for your Ragnar weekend! 🙂
I need some of your organization skills to rub off on me. Seriously. I’m an embarrassment. 🙂
I do love family hang out times though! We’ve been doing so much more of that lately and it’s been wonderful.

Great list. Thanks for sharing. I like having a general plan but being more spur in the moment. And my car is definitely dirty, though I like when its clean.

That sounds like a nice combination – not too rigid.
