I woke up this morning feeling like ten miles of bad road – and it was self inflicted…
I ran in the George Washington Parkway Classic Ten-Miler yesterday, and most of it is on the concrete surfaced George Washington Parkway which runs along the Potomac River from Mount Vernon into Old Town Alexandria. It’s a beautiful course that’s hard on the legs and joints.
Add to that not stretching properly after the race…
Add to that not icing down after I got home from the race…
Add to that a Chipotle chicken bowl chocked full of sodium for dinner…
Add to that two Mike’s Hard Limeades which are the perfect pairing to Chipotle…
Add to that not drinking enough water after dinner…
Add to that three nights in a row prior to the race of getting only five hours sleep per night…
Today is going to be all about hydration, hydration, hydration, foam rolling, stretching, and moving my body. It’s the perfect day to have a busy schedule with lots of clients to train because that keeps me moving!
I’m hoping to get my recap of yesterday’s race out by tomorrow, but that will mean more sitting tonight…
- Questions:
- Do you find that you sit too much?
- What was the most fun thing you did this weekend?
- Who raced this past weekend?
Ooo, that’s a whole lot of rough things together! Hope you’re back to normal super quick.
I sit WAY too much at work, but try to get up as often as I can. I also try to do some stretching, rolling or exercises in my cube when I can. It’s tough being tied to a phone and computer all day.

After a morning of drinking plenty of water, I’m feeling back to normal. I just finished training my last morning client, so I’m going to workout, and then stretch until it’s time to see my next client. So cool that you stretch and roll in your cube during your mini-breaks.
Running on concrete does a number on my joints, too. Hope your busy Monday gets you back on track! Can we take the GoPro to the track one day and try to capture some “fancy” shots a la Kathy W.?!
Absolutely! I’ll start bringing it on our Saturday morning runs. I doesn’t do well in low light, so until the sun is up for our Tuesday/Thursday runs there’s no use even trying.
I always have a hard time on concrete too. Sidewalk kills me…Mike’s hard lemonade and Chipotle sounds delightful, but I know what you mean, sometimes it makes you feel worse later.
Great racing action shot!

Thanks, Karen! My hubby gave me the GoPro for my birthday last November, and it’s about time I start using it! 🙂
Can’t wait to read your recap but I hear you on the sitting too much! I think I’m going to try a standing desk!

I sometimes take my laptop to our basement bar to work. It’s the perfect height for standing and working!
Concrete races kill me too! Take a few days off and rest up

I took this morning off from running, and saw my chiropractor for some work on my legs. It felt amazing!
I do sit a lot which is why I’m currently standing at the bar to read a few blogs instead of sitting:)
Hope you are back to normal soon!!

I stand at our bar sometimes to work as well. It’s the perfect height. I took this morning off from running and then saw my chiropractor for some leg work. I feel great now!
I definitely find myself sitting too much sometimes. I can tell when my hip flexors start screaming and my TFL starts to ache!

It was great seeing you on Sunday; just wish we’d had more time to catch up! I just posted my recap if you’re interested. I took a million pictures, so be prepared!
Gosh, I still haven’t used my GoPro. I do sit a lot. My sister LOVES her stand up desk. I hope you feel better after a day of hydration and movement. I’m looking forward to your recap!

I started feeling better by mid-day on Monday after I got a lot of water in me. I skipped my run today, and I’m pretty sure I’ll feel great by Thursday’s run.
I sit a lot after a race writing my recap! And I figure my legs need a break from the foam roller, but I did get a serious massage yesterday. Looking forward to your recap!
My recaps take so long to write because of all of the pictures we take, and then edit. I’d never really thought that I’m giving my legs a rest by sitting while I write the recap. I like the way you think! And speaking of the recap, it’s up!
Hope you’re feeling better and got lots of rest!
Not stretching after a race can be killer, but it’s so hard to make yourself do it!

I’m feeling fine now, and was fine after I re-hydrated properly on Monday. I took Tuesday off to let my legs rest a little more, and then saw my chiropractor to get my legs worked on. It felt fabulous!
Been there, done that several times. But it’s so worth it, right!?
Yep!
