It’s been forever since I wrote about random stuff going on! It seems like all of my recent musings have been about training, healthy recipes, race or trail run recaps, and of course Wednesday Word. So outside of those things what have I been up to lately? If you follow me on Instagram, you might have seen some of these pictures already…..
A couple of weeks ago, Bill and I had lunch with our friend Betty, and got to meet Sassy for the first time! Isn’t she a beauty?
Betty prepared us a vegan lunch. She made black bean/sweet potato quesadillas, kale salad, fruit salad, bulgur, and corn. It was delicious!
Later that afternoon we headed to our running friend Beth‘s house to spend some time on the boat with her and her husband. We started with this, and ended up later in the evening enjoying asparagus soup, chicken and veggie kabobs, and a salad!
While on the boat, Bill snapped this picture of us and the beautiful clouds with our GoPro. (Note: Affiliate link here and below – see lower right column for more information)
My bleeding hearts have been gorgeous this spring.
As have been our rhododendrons…
My buddy Erin surprised me with this little Scrabble gift in celebration of my new Wednesday Word linkup I host. Actually, Erin is the genius behind the Scrabble picture I use for my button. While on a run last fall, I told her about my idea to start a new linkup and explained how it would work, and she immediately came up with the Scrabble idea! Thank you, Erin!
Last week I saw this tweet, and it made me so happy! I’ll share Courtney‘s article soon.
On Friday I hosted a little get together for my MRTT friends to help them set up their training plans for their fall marathons. I gave everyone an empty spreadsheet and helped them fill in the blanks for their next 20-26 weeks of running. It was so fun! Margaritas and marathoning – two of my favorite things!
And then this happened on Saturday!!! Meet Stella, my new next-door-neighbor puppy! She’s a nine-week-old yellow lab and has already stolen my heart.
I needed to use up my Runner Points and a gift card so I stopped by Potomac River Running Store on the way to the wellness center on Monday to stock up on a few things. I love my well-worn Brooks Glycerin 12’s so I got a new pair of them before the 13’s come out. My water belt has been annoying me recently, so I’m going to give the hand-held Nathan hydration bottle a try. I’m a big fan of Honey Stinger chews, but I’ve never tried their waffles. I bought two to give them a try. I’ll keep you posted on what I think of both the water bottle and waffles.
Totally randomly while looking for a blueberry yogurt parfait at Wegman’s, I found this mint chip milk instead. Since mint chocolate chip ice cream is my favorite, I decided to give this a try. Let’s just say that it was amazing, and I wish that the Holsteins on our farm produced green milk.
And finally, who knew I’d like cherry ice cream. Believe it or not, this was a first for me and I initially told Bill that it would be all his since I was sure I wouldn’t like it… Um, wrong! Cherry Garcia isn’t your typical cherry ice cream.
And there you have it – my mostly non-running happenings from the last couple of weeks.
- Questions:
- What have you been up to lately?
- What is your favorite ice cream?
- Do you have a pet? If so, what?
Any chance I could get a copy of that blank marathon training spreadsheet? I’m trying to do my own, but can’t find one and I’m completely an idiot when it comes to word or excel. That was such a great idea to get together to do that!! And BTW, those GoPro photos are amazing! Is there a trick to them?

Sue, I plan to do some marathon training planning posts in the next few weeks, but I’ll be happy to email the spreadsheet to you. I do need to make one change to it before I post it, but I’ll send you the one we used. I’ll explain in the email.
The GoPro just takes great pictures as long as you have good light. I hope to start using it soon for our early morning runs now that we’re finishing in the daylight!
Nice life update and I love the pictures, especially on that boat! If you can find them, I highly recommend the lemon stinger waffles. That one is my favorite flavor.

I’m pretty sure my local running store carries them, but surprisingly I’m not a fan of most lemon flavored things. It’s quite odd since I’m such a fan of lemon drop martinis! 🙂
I’m playing around with my marathon plan for the fall, thinking of trying the FIRST plan (3 days of running per week plus two days of intense cross training). We’ll see . . .
I loved your rhododendron pic (all your pics, really). They remind me of bushes full of bouquets and I get such a kick out of them every summer.

I will be very interested in hearing what you think of this plan. Adding cross-training two days a week sounds like a good way to keep injuries at bay since you won’t be pounding the pavement as much. Keep me posted on what you think if you end up going with this plan.
omg, Sassy and Stella both so adorable! Your boat pic is amazing! I want to go to Betty’s and Beth’s to eat, amazing looking meals.

Yes, they are! I love having Stella next door. I get to enjoy the puppy kisses and cuddles, but I don’t have to get up in the middle of the night with her to take her out to potty. 🙂
Yes I have a British shorthair (cat) and he is adorable. My favorite ice-cream is coffee !

I just Googled to see what British Shorthairs look like, and they’re cute!
Lots of fun stuff going on lately. Stella is soooo cute!
FYI on the stinger waffles – I find them too crumbly to eat while running. But I love using them as a pre-race snack 45 minutes to an hour before a race! I’m interested to see how you end up preferring to use them (if you like them at all).
Favorite ice cream: Strawberry! Yum.

I’ve already discovered that the waffles aren’t going to be the best option for during my run, but agree that they’ll be a great pre-run fuel.
Stella has stolen my heart! 🙂
