It’s time for Friday Five linkup with DC area bloggers Courtney at Eat Pray Run DC, Cynthia at You Signed Up for What?!, and Mar at Mar on the Run! Be sure to stop by their blogs and say hello! While you’re there, be sure to check out other bloggers who are participating in the linkup, too. This week, with summer just around the corner, the DC Trifecta chose Five Favorite Summer Fruits and Veggies as the theme…..
“It is probable that the lemon is the most valuable
of all fruit for preserving health.”
~ Maud Grieve
Our farmers market moved this year from the parking lot of a shopping center near our house to another shopping center about fifteen minutes away. Since it’s soooooo far away, and I can’t possibly drive that far for fresh fruits, my fruit consumption is limited. Guess I’ll just have to get my fruit the liquid way!
1. Lemon Drop Martinis – I happen to be the queen of lemon drop martinis. One of my friends and I perfected the recipe a few years ago, and I guarantee if I make you one, you will thank me! Yes, they are that good. The recipe is a secret; however, if you ever come visit me, I will play bartender and make you one!
2. Peach and Coconut Rum Breeze – I came up with this drink at the beach a couple of summers ago. It’s easy to make and tastes so good! Whenever I make one, Bill and I are instantly taken back to the beach! It’s as simple as two parts Peach Mango Fuze and one part coconut rum. You’ll feel an ocean breeze with the first sip!
3. Blueberry Mojitos – I’m a big fan of the classic mojito, although I don’t serve them often. My recipe is quite complicated with muddling the spearmint leaves and all, but it’s worth the effort in the end. I’m growing spearmint in my small herb garden this summer in hopes of enjoying these drinks a little more frequently. Our favorite restaurant serves blueberry mojitos and I’m thinking of adjusting my recipe to include this delicious fruit.
4. Classic Lime Margarita – The secret to a good margarita is top-shelf tequila. My two favorites are Tres Generaciones Añejo and Milagro. A margarita is only as good as its tequila…
5. Strawberry Daiquiris – I haven’t had a strawberry daiquiri since my junior year of college….. Let’s just leave it at that.
And there you have it – five great ways to get your daily servings of fruits… 😉
- Questions:
- What is your favorite fruit?
- Do you like fruity sweet drinks, or are you more of a dry wine kind of person; or, are you a teetotaler?
- Are you racing this weekend?
These drinks sound so tasty. Perfect for lounging out this summer.

And all have been taste-tested at the beach! Well, except for the daiquiri! 🙂
Love it! I don’t drink any of these other than margaritas, but they do sound refreshing!

Thanks! It makes sense that you haven’t tried most of these since you’re a beer drinker, and I’m more of an umbrella-in-the-drink kind of girl. 🙂 Have a great weekend!
This. Post. Yes. So much yes!!! I had a blueberry mojito for the first time a month ago. Yum-my!

Our lemon drop martini recipe is better than any I’ve had at any restaurant except for Bonefish Grill’s, the recipe my friend and I set out to mimic. We pretty much hit it perfectly!
Hah! I don’t do mixed drinks much but a good margarita on the rocks can tempt me!

Oh I love this spin on summer fruits. I would love to try your lemon drop Martini! I am huge fan of fresh strawberries and actually pick them at a local farm!

Fresh picked strawberries that were able to ripen on the vine are the absolute best (and sweetest)!
Ooo, yummy! I like apples or grapes the best I think. In terms of alcoholic drinks, I like fruity mixed drinks. Or straight tequila. Yum!

Our tailgate members always do a tequila shot before heading in to watch our Hokies play!
I am definitely not a sweet drink person, altho my mouth was watering reading this post!

You, too!
Now you’re talking! I do like a sweet drink, although I don’t eat many sweets. I would partake in all of these, and do. HA. A margarita has always been my favorite. (Heck, I’ll even drink Lime-a-Ritas.) Mango margaritas were common when we visited St. John. I definitely need to try and make those.
I’m ready for the weekend now…It’s 5 o’clock somewhere….

Margaritas are usually my go-to drink if I’m out because they are the most consistently well made.
this sort of fruit consumption seems like the perfect way to ring in the long weekend! if you wanted a serving of veggies as well, i really enjoy a margarita with jalapeno infused tequila…

And there you have it – a drink with both fruits and veggies! 🙂
Nice. This is exactly the best way to get in your fruits. I’m good with veggies – HELLO BLOODY MARY – but these fruit ideas are the best! You’re so smart 🙂
HaHaHa – thanks!
That peach mango drink sounds fantastic, Deb! I rarely hear anyone talk about Tres Generaciones; you know what’s up, girl! I lived in Guadalajara, Mexico for 6 months in 2005; while there, I went on a tour of Tequila, Mexico and we visited the Tres Generaciones facility…and had some samples. I love their tequila; it tastes so clean. We watched them cut tequila plants and everything; it was pretty cool. Hope you have a fantastic Memorial Day weekend!

Your tour of the tequila facility sounds fun! Most people think Patron when then think of good tequila, but I like Tres Generciones much better.
Hope you have a great weekend as well!

Oh Deb, I love your spin on the Friday Five theme!!! A Mojitos sounds delightful on a hot day, I feel like I need to try this out with my mint weed in my garden!
Thanks, Julie! I hope you’re having a great weekend, and congrats on your new niece! 🙂
Best post ever. I love all of these things. Put some vodka, soda, and something fruity in a chilled glass and I’m happy!
