Excerpts from today’s post are from last Memorial Day weekend…
On this Memorial Day weekend, let us not forget those who fought and paid the ultimate sacrifice so that we might live freely in this beautiful country. May God bless our nation’s heroes buried at Arlington National Cemetery; and we must not forget those who have been wounded and struggle every day to live as they did before they served our country. If you have served in one of the branches of our military, thank you!
My friend Jim recently posted on Facebook, “… every Memorial Day, I go to Arlington National Cemetery… and get to hang out with our Nation’s heroes.” Beautifully said Jim, and thank you for allowing me to use your two photographs.
From Arlington National Cemetery, the Washington Monument can be seen in a distance. We truly have a beautiful nation’s capital.
A few years ago, the sun shining through our backyard American flag was so beautiful that I stopped cutting the grass and grabbed my camera. I’m so glad that I took the time to appreciate this beautiful sight, and so thankful to live in this glorious country!
Our bluebird has always been very patriotic. He loves sitting on the flag pole watching his surroundings almost as much as Bill enjoys photographing him.
Blessings to you this weekend as you spend time with family and friends reflecting on our many heroes. I am heading off to church, and then I’ll spend my day preparing to host family and friends for our annual barbecue. And tomorrow Bill and I plan to visit Arlington National Cemetery…
- Questions:
- Have you ever visited Arlington National Cemetery?
- What are your Memorial Day plans?
Sounds like a nice time. I’ve always wanted to go to the National Cemetery and am hoping to when we come down for MCM. It’ll all be dependent on my teammates though because we’re all road tripping down together. Fingers crossed!

You will run alongside Arlington National Cemetery during the early part of the marathon, but I highly recommend you visit and spend some time there if time permits.
I love the sun behind Old Glory and your patriotic bluebird. My uncle was a prisoner of war in Korea, and I always think not only of him but of the brave men who rescued him. And so many others.

Thanks, Eli. Your uncle was a lucky man to have been rescued. We have so many brave men and women to honor.
Happy Memorial Day to you. I hope the barbeque was a success. I’ve been to Arlington National Cemetery many times and it truly takes your breath away. A definite reminder of the sacrifice behind the freedom we enjoy and the lives we’re able to lead.

Our barbeque was a great success, and the weather couldn’t have been more perfect! We had a nice visit at Arlington National Cemetery. You probably saw Bill’s pictures on Facebook.
