It’s time for Friday Five linkup with DC area bloggers Courtney at Eat Pray Run DC, Cynthia at You Signed Up for What?!, and Mar at Mar on the Run! Be sure to stop by their blogs and say hello! While you’re there, be sure to check out other bloggers who are participating in the linkup, too. This week the DC Trifecta chose Five Things That Make Me Happy as the theme.
“If you want to be happy, be.”
~ Leo Tolstoy
I’m a genuinely happy person, and I hope that comes across with everyone I meet. Everyone has a gift and I’d like to think that mine is to bring a smile to people’s faces , and on a good day, to make them laugh.
If I’m using my gift and making someone’s day a little better, it makes me happy. Of course there are lots of other things that make me happy. Here are five…..
1. Spending time with my family…..
Whether it’s sitting around the table with Bill, Joseph, Julie, and Daniel, or visiting my mom, brother, in-laws, and extended family, I’m happy.
2. Spending time with friends…..
Whether it’s a night out with the girls, or a quiet couples evening on our deck enjoying a bottle of wine, I’m happy.
3. Running…..
Whether I’m running alone and lost in thought, pushing hard on a difficult hill workout with my training partners, or chatting during a long run with a good friend, I’m happy.
4. Watching my Hokies play football…..
Whether I’m screaming with 66,232 friends in Lane Stadium or watching at home with Bill, and as long as we’re winning, I’m happy.
5. Planning events…..
Whether I’m cleaning off the deck and setting up tables for a party, or preparing for a fitness workshop for my clients and running friends, I’m happy.
So if you’ll excuse me, I need to go make someone laugh because that makes me happy!
- Questions:
- What makes you happy?
- What do you feel is your gift?
- Are you racing this weekend?
Love this! Many of the same things make me happy 🙂 Have a great weekend!

Thanks, Courtney! We had a great time, albeit muddy, at Ragnar WV!
I generally try to be a happy person too and I also love to plan events!
Planning events is very satisfying, especially when everyone has fun!
Not racing; not til the fourth. I’m happy it’s not yet raining like they predicted this morning.

Have fun at your race on the fourth! I run in the Firecracker 5K every July 4th in Reston Town Center. It’s a great start to our Independence Day!
I’m not, by nature, a happy person…but I work hard to make sure that I am happy!

Good for you! Life’s too short not to enjoy every second!
Great list. I love that you have “spending time with” on it. And who doesn’t love going to some college football? I grew up going to Penn State games and then went there for grad school, so I LOVE college football.

Thanks! We have a contract to play Penn State in football 2022 and 2023, but it’s so far out that the details could change. My hubby and sons went up to State College to watch VT wrestle Penn State this past season. It came down to the final match, and we lost in overtime!
I’ve always looked at happiness as a choice. Some may have to work harder than others to get there, but you’ve got to choose happiness first. You’ve got it down pat.!! Oh, and Roll Tide. 😉

The last time we played Alabama it didn’t turn out too well for us! 😕
This list is awesome! Please tell me that you know the seating capacity of Lane by heart and didn’t have to look up that number!
HaHa – I knew it was 66,000-something, but had to look up the exact number. 😀
I AM racing this weekend, Deb! I have a one mile race tomorrow; it’s always super fun and I can’t wait to get out there. Hope you have a great weekend!

Love your list ! Family is on my list too ! I am racing tomorrow…. 10K. Not in the best of condition as I have been traveling all week and am kind of out of whack but still looking forward to it. Have a great weekend.

Hope your race went well! I ran in Ragnar WV on Friday and Saturday on our MRTT team. It was muddy and amazing! Hope to get it recapped this week.
Love the planning events one! I love planning things.

Planning events is just so satisfying. I love it when my friends enjoy the end result!
I’ve been told that my laugh makes people smile, if not laugh themselves. I have a kind of cackle; that sounds similar to the wicked witch of the west from the wizard of oz. (this is what I’m told)
I don’t necessarily think of it that way, but it’s fine by me if it makes others laugh. Laughter is contagious, right?
Also, I believe my motto should be “I’m only one run away from a good mood.” It’s life altering.

Love your motto, and it’s absolutely true! 🙂
I’m a naturally happy/glass half full kind of person, too. I can’t help it, it’s just the way my brain works – not that I mind! It makes me happy when I can make others happy and/or make them laugh. Being around my family, friends, and dogs also makes me happy. So does running races and rooting on my Hokies!
