Happy April Fools Day!
Just for fun today, I’m sharing five running related things about me… Four are true and one is false. You have to figure out which one is the April Fool!
Five running facts about me:
1. I’ve run a 50-mile ultramarathon.
2. I qualified for Boston at my first marathon.
3. I ran cross country for Virginia Tech.
4. I started running 44 years ago.
Which one of these five items do you think is the April Fool?
- Questions:
- Give me one April True and one April Fool about you, and see if I can pick out the April Fool!
- What’s the best April Fools Day prank you’ve gotten on someone?
- Are you racing this weekend?

Today I’m joining the DC Trifecta’s Friday Five Linkup with Courtney at Eat Pray Run DC, Cynthia at You Signed Up for What?!, and Mar at Mar on the Run! Please stop by these DC area bloggers’ blogs to say hello; and while you’re there, be sure to check out other bloggers who are also participating in the linkup.
Well, I just read you interesting bio so I believe I do know which one is false but I don’t want to spoil it for the rest 🙂
I have never really pulled any good April Fools on anyone but right now, you got me thinking……..

Thanks for not spoiling the fun! 🙂
So did you come up with a good April Fools this year? Other than this post, it’s the only time I thought about it all day. Of course, I spent six hours alone in a car driving across Virginia…
I think running the 50 miler is the False one. If it isn’t, I’d love to read your post about it. Maybe some day for me. I just completed a 50k but a 50 miler is alot. If it is true. Kudos to you, that is awesome! This wkend I am going down to AC to run an April’s Fools race!

Gotcha! I ran the JFK 50-Miler in 1987, and you can read the recap here! I didn’t run cross country for Virginia Tech. I just didn’t have the confidence to try out for the team.
Hope your race wen well!
I think running 44 years ago is false. You are way too young !
I don’t particularly like April Fools day… so no pranks to post about. However, my big race is this weekend… yeah, first marathon !

Nope! I started running on the JV track team in 1972 when I was in the eight grade. I didn’t run cross country for Virginia Tech, but I sure do wish I’d tried out for the team.
I am going to guess that ALL are true except #2.. I qualified for Boston at my first marathon.
Good guess, but I did qualify for Boston at my first marathon – that was one of my race goals. I didn’t run cross country for Virginia Tech and regret it.
Too bad you did not get to run for your college but you have certainly some wonderful accomplishments on your list. Not a fan of April Fool;’s Day so I need to remember not to be tricked!

Other than this post, I didn’t get any April Fools jokes on anyone this year, either…
Hope you’re having a great weekend!
What a fun April Fools’ Day post. Before reading the comments -I couldn’t help myself ;)- I was going to say #5 was the April Fool but if it’s not, what a great accomplishment! So here are my running April True and April Fools’ statements: 1. I ran my first Ragnar last spring 2. I’ve run a race in 24 different states.

Since I’m pretty sure your goal is to run a race in every state, I’m going to guess that you HAVE run a race in 24 different states already, and that Ragnar is the April Fool.
I have coached over 100 runners across the marathon finish line, many from my days of coaching for the National AIDS Marathon Training Program and Worldgate Sport & Health’s running program. I didn’t run cross country for Virginia Tech, but I think you figured that out by reading the comments. 😉
You’re right about my April Fool but I do hope to run a Ragnar sometime. Your coaching accomplishment is outstanding!
Thank you! You will LOVE Ragnar. I just signed up for my fifth!

I think the ultramarathon claim is the false one. But I could be wrong…

April Fool! I ran the JFK 50-Miler in 1987 – you can read the recap here! I didn’t run cross country for Virginia Tech.
I think #3 might be false ?? I totally forgot it was April fools day 🙂

Correct! Not trying out for the Virginia Tech cross country team is one of my biggest regrets.
I’m going to guess the 44 years of running is false because I think we are pretty close in age…

Boy do I have you fooled, Erika, but thanks for for compliment! I’m 58, and I’m pretty sure you’re a lot younger than that. 🙂 I did not run cross country for Virginia Tech, and regret not doing that. It was a club sport back then, so I’m sure the coach would have welcomed me!
I don’t think you ran cross country for VT. Am I right? Happy Friday!
You are correct!
Hope you had fun today at the Cherry Blossom Ten-Miler! My friends who ran it said that it was cold and windy, but not as bad as they feared.
I think your cross-country claim is false…?
Love this “game”. Let’s see…
I ran a marathon before I ever ran a 5K
I’ve run HMs in 8 different states
Yes, you are correct! I’m guessing that you DID run a marathon before you ran an 5K. If that is true, it’s so cool!
You didn’t run cross country for Tech!

You are correct, Susan!
I hope to see you next Saturday at the North Face Endurance Challenge races! Are you running the marathon or one of the longer races?
I’m doing the 50k!
Oh I love this idea for April Fools! I am 99% sure the fools fact is number 3… unless you are kept that secret from me! 🙂
Oh and here’s your April Fool and April True:
1. I have never broken a bone
2. My travel soccer team got kicked out of our league when I was a kid
Oh, this is hard. I’m hoping that you have never broken a bone so that your team getting kicked out of your soccer league is the April Fool. If it’s the April True, I want to hear that story!
I broke several bones throughout my childhood. Nothing major, though. A few fingers, my collar bone, and then a stress fracture in my shin in high school (not sure if that one counts).
I’ll have to tell you the story of my soccer team getting kicked out of our league at Ragnar! You’ll have to tell me that April Fools story you mentioned 🙂
Deal! I actually thought of the April Fools story while we were running on Saturday, but decided to save it for Ragnar.
Nope, no secrets, you’re correct! 😀
hmmmm…..I’m gonna go with the “over 100 runners trained” …..I know you’ve coached a lot of peeps, but I’m gonna guess it hasn’t been quite that many (yet). My husband’s birthday is today…and several times when his parents would call him, he’d tell them that we were pregnant (again), and EVERY time they’d believe him.

I used to coach large groups of people for the National AIDS Marathon Training Program and Worldgate Sport & Health’s running programs, so yes, I have coached over 100 people across the marathon finish line! 😀 I didn’t run cross country for Virginia Tech.
That’s hilarious that your husband got the same April Fools joke on his parents year after year!
I first read your blog title as April Tool or April Fool. 🙂 I might have to develop that into a post idea for next year. If the trained 100 runners to cross their first marathon finish line is true, then you are my idol! Love that! I just found out I am running MCM this year and its my first marathon. I’m very scared…
I used to coach large groups of people for the National AIDS Marathon Training Program and my gym’s running program, so I have coached over 100 people across their marathon finish line! I did not run cross country for Virginia Tech, and really regret not trying out for the team.
That’s so exciting that you got into the MCM. It’s one of my favorite marathons! 🙂
