Since Bill and I had both caught an uninvited late summer virus, we decided to postpone heading to the beach until this past Tuesday. I felt pretty good on Monday, and as you can tell from my chart below, I ran, lifted, and did yoga. Since I wouldn’t be above sea level for the next week or so, I chose to run hill repeats while I could. I felt great during my repeats, but perhaps I overdid it because on Tuesday I was feeling crappy again.
This whole week, neither Bill nor I have felt like our usual high-energy selves. If watching the Olympics from the sofa while eating mint chocolate chip ice cream were an Olympic sport, I would have won multiple gold medals. Cliché – yes, exaggeration – no.
The ridiculously hot and humid weather hasn’t helped any either. The delightfully cool air conditioned temperature in our little beach cottage begs us to stay indoors rather than venturing out. We have taken a few walks (with a little running thrown in), and down by the ocean there is just enough of a breeze to make it bearable – barely.
Yesterday and the day before, we got up at 3:30 AM to watch the Perseid Meteor Showers. It was amazing, but that’s a separate story for a whole post of its own. Yesterday, once it was time for the sun to come up we went back down to the beach to take sunrise pictures; and today we headed to Currituck Sound for some standup paddle boarding and had a blast. At least we’re doing a few things besides watching the Olympics and napping!
It’s 5 PM and I haven’t napped yet today, so I’ll leave you for now. There’s no reason to break a tradition at this point…
Speaking of lying on the sofa taking it easy, check out my daily steps – lowest ever since I got my Fitbit last summer…

A lazy beach vacay sounds very appealing about now! Sorry to hear about the virus. I’m just getting over one as well.

This is, without a doubt, the laziest vacation we’ve ever gone on! My husband didn’t even bring any of his tools to work on little house projects this time…
You are in such great shape, a vacation from your usual routine is NOT gonna affect you. You probably know that 😉 I had my first-ever OCR event this weekend, so that was a great challenge. Thankfully, the weather was warm (not hot) and there was a nice breeze and the humidity was better.

Yep, but it’s fun to whine. Ha!
Can’t wait to read about your obstacle race! I’ve yet to sign up for one of those.
cool graphic! I love active vacations and like to try new things that I do get to do- I always take my running shoes for atleast one run to explore the city 🙂 hope you are feeling better!

Thanks! We are usually extremely active on vacations, but with neither of us feeling 100%, we are really laying low this week. Of course, the Olympics are keeping us up late every night and that doesn’t help any either.
I’ve never seen a meteor shower, I can’t imagine how beautiful it is! Sorry to hear you were under the weather for a few days. I would have loved to compete in the “Olympic event” with you! Sometimes it’s good to just relax, especially when the weather has been so unbearable!

Thanks, Janelle! We never saw more than two meteors at a time, but on the first night, they were falling very steadily. It was very cool!
I wouldn’t call it being lazy at all. I just think we need some major downtime occasionally — sometimes due to sickness and sometimes not. I like your new Olympic Sport! 🙂 I saw your picture of the horses on the beach. That has got to be the coolest thing to see. I hope you feel better soon. Thanks for linking, Deb!
This has been down time like I haven’t experienced in years! I can’t really complain because it’s been kind of nice. 🙂
I had been hearing about the meteor showers but it has been cloudy a lot of the week during it. I didn’t get up but it’s safe to say I would not have been able to see any. I love those kinds of things. Am I detecting less motivation in fitbit steps? I have a remedy, join me and some others in the Stepbet challenge. 🙂

Not less motivation at all, I just haven’t been feeling all that great… I’m all for joining step challenges. How do I join?
I usually “attempt” to work out on vacation but in reality it rarely happens. I’m always active though and generally get lots of walking in anyway while I’m vacationing.
My husband woke me up the other night to watch the meteor shower. I didn’t get up. The next day I actually thought it was a dream. I really wish I would have got out of bed to watch it! Hope you had a fabulous time at the beach.
Did your husband see many meteors? I’m recapping our viewing on the blog tomorrow and sharing a funny meteor story from many years ago!
this heat has really got me down the past 2 weeks. I am having a hard time getting my usual miles in and forget about pace!

The heat has been crazy! Wonder what our fall weather will be like?
