There are races, and then there are crazy fun races – today’s Jingle Bell Jog was the latter. I’ll give it the full credit it deserves in a recap on Thursday, but today’s weekly wrap couldn’t go by without mentioning it. Mentioning it, because it was yet another opportunity for me to get some shenanigans on with my crazy running friend Erin.
I’d been signed up for this race for a while, but Erin didn’t decide to run it until a couple of days after our turkey trot. Once we were both in, we immediately went into costume planning mode – subtle and Santa’ish for me and over the top for Erin, ’cause that’s how we roll.
Our costuming style may be very different, but our love for race day shenanigans is right in step with each other. So much so, that for Christmas Erin made me this adorable collage of our many race pictures. This gift brings back so many fun memories of our nearly three years of running together. It’s a gift that I cherish and it might have brought a tear or two to my eyes.
Be sure to pop back over in a few days to check out my Jingle Bell Jog recap. Where else will you be able to see almost a thousand Santa-clad runners heading down the parkway? It was a sight to behold, and with my sweet husband joining us as our official photographer, hardly a Santa was missed. Oh, and just a little spoiler… I might have won 1st place overall masters female!
Here’s how this past week’s workouts went down, but without me wearing a Santa costume…

Looooved our adventure today! Freezing and fun!!!
Freeeeeeezing, yet so, so fun!
This is the first year in a long time that I didn’t do a Santa/Holiday run! Felt weird! You look so cute!

Thank, Wendy! I always loved the Christmas shirt you ran in last year and searched for a similar one until I landed on the Target Santa pajamas. Luckily, it was cold enough today that I didn’t get too terribly hot in the cotton top!
I do most of my races with friends (and sometimes the hubby joins us). I do an occasional race on my own, though. I had to do my own “virtual” holiday run this year…no races in my area that fit my schedule (there were a whopping two…and both were on the same day) ;-(

Boo for the only two holiday races in your area being on the same day. I’m glad that you got to run a virtual holiday race at least!
I mostly run alone, but I do like to meet up with friends for races, especially out of town ones where we can get in some good girl time together. I think that is part of why I LOVE Ragnar Relays so much, all the fun times with my friends. I do local races alone, but there is always someone there I know.
That’s such a great point and I’d never really thought of Ragnar as a race getaway, but it really is! 😀
What a sweet and clever gift from Erin! I’m very impressed with both of your costumes. I’ve never run a Santa themed race but sure would love to. Congrats on your masters win. I’m looking forward to the recap. Thanks for linking, Deb!
I agree, Erin’s gift was so clever and thoughtful! As for the costumes, thank you – mine was simply a pajama top from Target and a Santa hat from Michael’s that I wore with a pair of my black capris. Luckily it was cold enough that I didn’t get too hot.
What a fun race this sounds like! I would so dress up too! Congratulations on the 1st place very awesome!!! I tell you I know people are tired of hearing about it but I had so much fun in PCB with my friends til it just won’t die down! So many fun shenanigan stores were born! I do hope we can pull something together for 2017 ! Thanks Deb for joining us in the Weekly Wrap!

It was such a cool race. You would have so much fun running in a similarly themed race!
Tat is a great gift! I may want to copy that idea. Do you know how she made it?
You both look adorable in your costumes. Can’t wait to read the race recap.
I don’t know for sure, but I assume that Erin made it with some sort of collage app. I can ask her if you’d like.
Love the Santa shirt and congratulations on your 1st place win! I’ve got a “Holiday Hustle” 5k coming up this week. I’ll be wearing “festive” clothes but no costume. I’m excited to see how it goes since it will be at night on the square where everything will be covered in lights!
I usually run alone but always run races with the hubby or friends, races alone just seem sad to me. What a wonderful gift your friend gave you and the gift of memories are even better!

The Santa shirt is actually the top to a pajama set Target sells for women, men, and children! Genius, right? I totally stole the idea from another runner who posted it on Instagram. 😀
Have fun at your Holiday Hustle 5K!
