Relaxing on the Patio
Knowing that we didn’t really have a lot on our weekend’s agenda, I ran on Friday morning so I could enjoy the rare opportunity of sleeping in on Saturday. Originally we’d invited ten couples (running friends) to our home on Friday evening for happy hour and when I’d planned my runs for the week, I decided to take Saturday morning off. As the week progressed, it looked like no one was going to be able to make it to happy hour, so we canceled the event. I texted my friends and told them that instead, Bill and I were going out for Tex-Mex in case anyone changed their minds and wanted to join us.
The weather was very cooperative so we sat outside on the shaded patio, and as always at Parrando’s, the drinks and food were delicious. We were disappointed not getting to see our friends, but we still had a fantastic time!
And Now on to a RunDown of this Past Week’s Workouts…
Running
My wild animal encounters were limited to deer this week. Often times, I see them standing in my neighbors’ front yards right next to the street when I pass by at zero dark thirty. Sometimes they’re hidden by a tree until I’m right on top of them, and in those cases, they scare the heck out of me. After a particularly frightful close encounter on Friday morning, I realized that I’m lucky it’s just deer being as spooked by me as I am by them… as my mind wandered to what if it were mountain lions crouched in their attack position.
If a mountain lion had been lurking in the bushes, he would have been impressed with how well I had coordinated my tank, shorts, and shoes!
Walking
While we still had Pablo, we took him for a mile walk on Sunday morning. Yesterday afternoon, Bill suggested we go for a walk since neither of us had done an cardio during the morning, but I was feeling a little lazy so he bribed me with frozen custard!
Biking
I took another week off from biking to make sure my upper arm wound from my recent skin cancer removal was healed. We went on a long ride today, but I’ll talk about it next week since my rundowns cover Sunday to Saturday… 😉
Strength Training
I kept Monday’s lifting session to lower body only, but added in a few easier upper body exercises into my Wednesday and Friday workouts.
Yoga
I added my normal routines back in and could really feel them after skipping some of the harder poses (for me that’s a lot of poses LOL) while at my mom’s house and the previous week after surgery.
It’s on the Blog
In case you skipped checking in on my blog this past week, here’s what you missed…
I’ve started working on the recaps from our vacation in June and hope to start pumping them out this week!
In addition to the workouts I mentioned above, here’s a complete rundown of my workouts from this past week (completed mostly in our home gym)…
- Questions:
- Do you socialize with your running or biking friends outside of running and biking? How about coworkers?
- If you like Mexican food, what’s your favorite thing to order? ~ I ALWAYS order chicken fajitas and a margarita (on the rocks, no salt). 😀
- Did you race this weekend?
And that’s my rundown… Have a great week!

I’m linking up with Deborah at Confessions of a Mother Runner and Kim from Running on the Fly for their Weekly Run Down. Be sure to check out not only the hosts’ posts, but the other great bloggers joining in on the fun!
When we go for Mexican it’s guacamole and ceviche. I could happily live on both. Missed your arm surgery, hope you’re on the mend
I’m in awe that you can fit ten couples in your house — but you also host a large memorial day party, don’t you? I’m so used to city life now. When I first moved to Japan, I didn’t really understand people not entertaining at home – it was athing we did growing up in the suburbs. Now I’m swung back the other way. I had a dinner party once –nearly ten years ago.

Oh yes, I like guacamole, too! I don’t usually order it when we’re out since I make a really good guac. If the kids are with us we might, but not when it’s just the two of us.
Yes, we live in suburbia with lots of room in our house for entertaining which is great since we both love to entertain.
mmm guac party at your house 😀

Yes!
I love Mexican food, but (unlike the majority of human ind) I’m not a fan of guacamole. But, chicken fajitas? Margaritas (I don’t mind the salt LOL)? I’m totally on board with those!
I love guac, but can totally see it being something people could be iffy on (especially the texture).
Yes we look for every and any excuse to get together outside of running as well. WE usually have at least one coffee date or lunch a week. It’s amazing how close you become to your running friends!
Sounds fun!
Those margaritas and Tex-Mex food look so good! Makes me want to find a Mexican restaurant nearby. We are still at my son’s house in Oregon. We did see posters warning us about cougars in the area, but no actual cougar (thank heavens!) I think I am going to have to have a little skin cancer removed from my face. I had a similar one removed about 2 years ago on the other side, so I am not too worried. Hope your arm feels better soon and you can resume all your regular activities.

Ooohhh, I bet cougars popped in my mind while on my run because you mentioned seeing the sign in your reply to my comment on your blog post last Sunday. I’d forgotten about that, but apparently subconsciously I had not!
I hope all goes well with your skin check and cancer removal (if necessary). My place hasn’t hurt since the first 24 hours or so, and today I pretty much resumed my regular workout. 🙂
They’re probably not the healthiest but I’m such a sucker for nachos!!
Hey, there’s nothing wrong with some good nachos every once in a while. Now you’ve got me hungry for some! 😀
Sounds like a lovely week. Deer can actually do a lot of damage but far less than mountain lions.
My running group usually goes out for breakfast post long run. I’ve had calls for my YTT this summer so haven’t been able to join in much. Occasionally we do other stuff together but not too much.
Glad to hear the arm is healing up well & you’re able to add back in more stuff.
Thanks, Judy!
Hopefully, you’ll be able to join in on breakfast with your running friends once you finish your yoga training.
I do think a mountain lion would have been very impressed with your matching running outfit!
Kind of a bummer about your happy hour plans, but great that your meal and drinks were enjoyable!
Most of my friends are fitness friends. I don’t have a lot of friends outside of my active hobbies and the ones I do have live far away so we don’t see each other that often. That said, we do see our friends Wendy and Vincent most often – they are practically neighbors though (live about a half mile from us) so we’ll drop by for coffee or have them over for dinner. We always end up talking about running, training, racing or “we should do x race together next year”. Wendy is one of our biggest supporters but has some physical limitations so doesn’t run or cycle. On the opposite side, my friend Marie-Jose I met at a book club at least 10 years ago and she’s normally my film buddy but recently we joined the same gym together and now try to go together at least once a week. We are also going to do a run together in September.
I love Mexican food (I am originally from New Mexico, at least born there and lived there 8 years in total)! I usually go for a classic red chilli sauce enchilada with a fried egg on top (if they do it). I love margaritas too – on the rocks, cuervo gold, rock salt!
No racing – but soon!
I know, I was really bummed because I don’t get to run with them very much any more. At least, Bill and I had a really nice dinner and drinks on the restaurant’s patio!
Your race is coming up next weekend, right?
