It’s time to sit down once again over a beverage of your choice and chat about things other than just running, riding, and training. Won’t you join me? I’ll go first…
If we were having coffee…..
I’d tell you that I’ve recently been noticing that my posture isn’t what it used to be. I catch myself needing to pull my shoulders up and back – something that used to happen naturally – so I decided to order this posture corrector (affiliate link) to wear a few hours per day. My mom has always talked about how terrific her posture was after she was in a car accident that left her with several broken vertebrae many years ago. During her recovery, she had to wear a back brace similar at the top to this one, but with an additional lower back support section.
I’m starting out wearing it for short segments of time and a little on the loose side, but will tighten it and wear it for longer periods as my body gradually returns to better posture (up to an hour or two a few days a week, especially while I’m working on my laptop). The brace is advertised as being something you can wear under your clothes, but I don’t think that would be comfortable or look very good.
If we were having coffee…..
I’d tell you that over the course of the summer the area under the bench we donated to the W&OD Trail in the spring has become overgrown with grass and weeds. I contacted the park manager on Monday letting him know how disappointed we were, especially since none of the other benches seem to be in such disarray. I explained that I’d be happy to weed around it, but unless some sort of barrier was placed between the ground and the mulch, the grass would grow right back. The manager contacted me the very next day letting me know that he’d have someone clean it up and put down a protective barrier under a new layer of mulch. By early Wednesday morning when Bill rode by on his bike, the area under the bench had been cleaned up!

If we were having coffee…..
I’d tell you that when we got home from our race weekend in North Carolina almost three weeks ago, we were treated to Close Encounter’ish lights flashing across the front of our washing machine. About two minutes into a load, the washer would stop, attempt to drain out what water had run in, and start its little circus of flashing lights. Fortunately, that first load I’d attempted was a very light load on the delicate cycle, not fifty pounds of heavy towels.
The repairman who arrived at our house a few days later shook his head when I suggested that perhaps I should just replace my 13-year-old machine instead of getting it fixed. He said that even though it’s old, it’s a good machine and that he repairs far more newer machines than older ones. I agreed to let him fix it, and nearly three weeks and two very long repair visits later, I still don’t have a working washing machine. After he told me the latest replacement part wouldn’t arrive until next Wednesday, I decided to suspend any further repairs and replace my washing machine – the new one is being delivered tomorrow afternoon!
If we were having coffee…..
I’d tell you that on the plus side, I found a very nice and clean laundromat about twenty minutes away. Who knew that these days you pay according to what size washing machine you use and, at this particular laundromat, you have four sizes to choose from.
If we were having coffee…..
I’d tell you that I’ve been working diligently on my Marine Corps Half Marathon recap and it’s long ya’ll! I’m not quite finished and it’s already over 2,000 words and has 28 pictures. There’s so much to share about running 13.1 miles! 😉
If we were having coffee…..
I’d tell you that both of our sons, the girls, and Pablo will be here this weekend and we can’t wait to see them! The weather is finally going to be a little cooler so after dinner we’re planning on sitting around the fire pit. It will be interesting to see what Pablo thinks of the fire.
If we were having coffee…..
I’d ask if you have a race coming up, and if you do, I’d wish you good luck and remind you to have fun!

Today I’m joining Deborah at Confessions Of A Mother Runner and Coco at Running With Perseverance for their monthly Ultimate Coffee Date linkup which goes live the first Friday of every month. Be sure to stop by their blogs for a cup of coffee and to say hello; and while you’re there, be sure to check out some of the other bloggers who are participating in the linkup.
- Questions:
- Does anyone reading this have an LG top-load HE washing machine? If so, do you like it? ~ That’s what I ordered.
- What do you have planned for this weekend?
- If we were having coffee, what would you tell me?

We got a new wash machine this year (I couldn’t tell you what month, though LOL…or maybe it was last fall?). We tried a HE top-load (can’t even remember what brand), but it wasn’t a good fit for me. We had it almost 10 years, though. I kept hoping for it to break down, but it held strong. So, now I’m back to a top-load “regular” wash machine…and it actually matches the dryer right next to it! It’s the little things, right? 😉 Have fun with all the family 😉
I’m hoping this machine doesn’t knot up our king size sheets the way our old one did, but that just might be a thing about that type of machine. Time will tell!
I am intrigued to hear if that posture corrector helps at all. Who knew there were still laundromats around here? So excited that it will finally cool off this weekend. Enjoy the fire pit!
I know, we live in such a bubble here (there actually isn’t a laundromat in Ashburn, but I found some in Sterling and Leesburg).
I’ve already started a review of the posture corrector that I’ll publish in a few weeks after I’ve had a chance to use it for a while.
I used to slouch a lot and my mom used to threaten me with that back brace, haha. I did eventually stop (for the most part), but my posture could probably use improvement still.
I had no idea laundromats were according to size now either!
Hope you have lots of fun this weekend!
I’ve always had really good posture and just recently noticed that I’m starting to slouch and I don’t want to get an old lady’s rounded back. Yikes!
Oh my. How did I not know there was a la undry bitmoji. <3 <3
We have lots of laundromats here, but I drop mine off at a mom and pop owned wash & fold
Curious how you find the posture to work

I plan to post a review of the posture corrector after I use it a few weeks. So far I really like it and it seems to be doing the trick!
I like the idea of dropping off laundry in a bag and picking it up clean and folded!
Wash and fold is a thing. I just wish they’d add “Catapault into my apartment & closet”

AND strip the sheets off the bed and remake it after the sheets are laundered…
LOL
Remake mostly. The way I sleep, the bed ends up stripped on its own many weeks

Bummer on the washing machine. I hope you like your new one!
Sorry the area by your bench got scraggly but I think they were amazingly responsive! Maybe I’ll get out there next weekend.
Thanks for joining us for coffee!
I was very impressed and pleased with how responsive that park manager was with having the grass weeded out. He’s been so nice to work with since I first contacted him last fall about donating the bench. He’s a good guy!
[…] Friday, I mentioned that my new washing machine was to be delivered yesterday afternoon and so far I love […]
I’m glad they fixed the bench it looks so much better now!
I think I need a posture thing too. My posture is horrible especially when I sit down.

Doesn’t it? It’s amazing how a little tidying up can really make something more inviting!
[…] Just up the hill from that section of the course, we stopped at a Starbucks that’s located at around the 2.5-mile mark where we talked non-stop for a couple of hours while enjoying coffee/hot chocolate. Kim and I had met once before at Deborah‘s house when Kim was in town in April for the Cherry Blossom Ten Miler, but that’s been six months so we had a lot of catching up to do. We were so busy gabbing that I forgot to take a picture for this Friday’s Ultimate Coffee Linkup. […]
