Gifts of Appreciation
For the second year in a row, in lieu of buying gifts of appreciation for my clients, I ordered wreaths in their honor from Wreaths Across America to be laid at the gravesites of our American heroes. It’s not too late to order if you’re so inclined!
Let the Celebrations Begin
Bill and I attended our first of four holiday parties last night at our dear friend Erin’s house. All these beautiful faces have been on the blog at some point or another, but almost always with hair in ponytails while wearing running clothes. About half of the guests were ladies I’ve met through our MRTT group, some of which I hadn’t seen in quite some time. It was so fun catching up!
Not Running with Santa; Say What?
This year just might be the first since 2012 that I won’t be running in a Christmas themed race. Today was the Run with Santa 5K (one of my favorites), but as the weeks led up to it, I just didn’t feel like registering. There’s one last chance for a local race, the Jingle Bell Rock & Run, next Saturday which I might sign up for if I can get some of my friends to join me.
And Now on to a RunDown of this Past Week’s Workouts…
Running
Tuesday morning I headed out for my run before my first client arrived. My 6 AM had canceled the night before so my first client wouldn’t be arriving until 7 AM. I got totally confused about the time and during my run when I glanced at my watch I picked up the pace to get finished in time. As I rushed into the house with what I thought was only two minutes to spare, Bill said, “I thought you said your first client wasn’t until 7 AM.” I looked at my watch again and it was 5:58, not 6:58. No wonder it was still so dark outside!
Thursday’s run was similar in running super early even though my first client session wasn’t until 7:30 AM (I didn’t confuse the time, though). I’ve grown to love running earlier so I’m not rushed and have time to foam roll before work.
On Saturday, I joined Lupe and Angela for a few miles on the W&OD Trail. It was a cold 29° and it seemed to take me longer than usual to warm up. What’s up with that?
Biking
For the forth Saturday in a row, I hopped on my spin bike (affiliate link) for twelve easy miles after my run. With limiting my Saturday runs to only five miles, I miss that longer cardio workout so I’m getting my fix by adding in biking immediately following my run.
Strength Training
It felt good to be back in my gym where I got three out of my goal of three workouts completed.
Yoga
I’m not very good at stretching immediately when I finish a run – I never have been. That’s why I’m so glad that I added yoga back into my workout routine in March about five years ago. I rarely do more than a thirty-minute routine, and often it’s just ten minutes, but I feel much better. If you watched me, though, you’d think it was the first time I’d ever tried yoga because I’m still not particularly flexible.
It’s on the Blog
In case you skipped checking in on my blog this past week, here’s what you missed… And if you missed Tuesday’s recap, you missed seeing pictures from a gorgeous place!
- Sunday – An Automatic PR and Cousin Time
- Tuesday – 2019 Turkey Dash Charlotte 4-Miler Race Recap
- Thursday – Las Vegas: Yay or Nay?
- Friday – Catching Up Over Coffee: New Bench Pads, Organizing for Christmas, and the Only Place I’ll Go Black Friday Shopping
In addition to the workouts I mentioned above, here’s a complete rundown of my workouts from this past week (completed either outside or in our home gym)…
- Questions:
- • Do you get together with your running friends off of the running trail?
- • If you celebrate Christmas, what’s the one thing you struggle with most getting done? ~ It’s often Christmas cards for me, but this year I was determined to get them out early and not have them hanging over my head.
- • Did you run in a race this weekend?
And that’s my rundown… Have a great week!

You’re way ahead of me with all the Christmas stuff! I still need to finish my trees (just need ornaments) and a few decorations. I have not even made a list of groceries for baking nor have I had a chance to write the annual Christmas letter. We’re headed to the daughter’s house in a bit to help with her yard work…so, all of those tasks will not be happening today either LOL

On Wednesday and Thursday I had decent sized holes in my schedule in the middle of the day and I made the most of my time. I taught my twice a month class on Tuesday and Saturday afternoons so I planned ahead since I’d be losing part of my weekend. We stopped writing a Christmas letter when the boys got out of high school and that’s freed up a lot of time. Perhaps in exchange for your time working in her yard, your daughter will come help you with your Christmas projects. That would make it a lot more fun, too! 😀
Ha, we’ve barely started with Christmas and it’s coming soon. My husband was just explaining to one of the stepkids why he can’t wait until the last minute to do his homework and we’re totally there with Christmas. I love your rein beers, every year we dress up a wine bottle in a santa suit.

I think the panic of a short season is what got me going full steam ahead this year! We have a sweater and scarf that we put on one of our wine bottles. 😀
I”m impressed with your holiday prep! I just finished putting up the tree. I’ve done nothing else. I personally wish I could just enjoy the holidays instead of doing all the work involved! Those Reinbeers are cute!
There’s always so much work to do for us moms, even when our kids are grown, right? The reinbeer were a great hit with the Cruisers (I tucked a gift certificate to our local running store inside each six pack).
Yay for MRTT parties you ladies look great. Today I did my first run with santa 5K. We clearly need to coordinate next time
Yes, definitely let me know when you’re running races in Reston!
We have our running club holiday party this week. It’s always so fun to see everyone NOT in running clothes. I’ve walked past good running friends who I never see outside of being sweaty. I had no clue what he looked like without a hat on and running clothes. Lol! Sounds like you had a great week!
I did the same thing at the butcher. I had a conversation with a lady in line about the deliciousness of their Brussels spouts and it wasn’t until a few days later that I realized that she was one of the ladies that I met at the track in the wee hours of the morning once a week. Granted, we met in the dark, but it was the hair down and street clothes that threw me off. LOL
Your tree is beautiful! Thanks for sharing the photos. We still don’t have ours up yet – we are waiting for our middle son and his wife to come home next weekend to decorate it. I had to laugh at your “lost” hour. It sounds exactly like something I would do! 🙂

Thanks! Enjoy decorating your tree with your family.
If I’m going to lose an hour, I’m glad I was early and not late. I can’t stand being late!
