Cruisers Annual Christmas Party
Ten years ago when I set up our Cruisers Facebook group, I set our description as, “Group of running friends who meet each Saturday to run together and train for multiple distance races, stay fit, and have fun together on the running trail. Must be willing to get up early on Saturdays!” I should now change the description to a group of friends who occasionally run together, but never miss an opportunity to celebrate!
To help me keep life simple during the hectic holiday season and so I don’t have to cook for a large group, each year the Cruisers meet on a Sunday night in December at a local Japanese Steak and Seafood House for dinner before ending the evening at Bill’s and my house where we enjoy an after-dinner drink and dessert before exchanging gifts. Unfortunately, this year we forgot to take a group photo, so this picture from dinner will have to suffice.
Relaxing Friday Night
Bill and I both got home at a decent time on Friday and I made blueberry martinis for happy hour – I love pulling out the holiday martini glasses. After dinner, we watched a football game and just completely relaxed.
Let the Celebrations Continue
We had two Christmas parties last night. The first party was at our dear friend Kim’s house where I got to see four MRTT runner friends, and the second was in our old neighborhood.
And Now on to a RunDown of this Past Week’s Workouts…
Running
Tuesday morning it was 50° so I headed out in shorts and a tank, and without gloves!
By Thursday the temperature had dropped to 24° with a feels like of 20° so it was a great opportunity to pull out my Christmas mittens.
Even thought it was 35° on Saturday morning, it was humid and I had to ditch my white shell after a half mile. How fun that I had on my festive reindeer top underneath!
Biking
For the fifth Saturday in a row, I hopped on my spin bike (affiliate link) for twelve easy miles after my run. As I mentioned last week, while limiting my Saturday runs to only five miles, I miss that longer cardio workout so I’m getting my fix by adding in biking immediately following my run.
Strength Training
I got all three of my goal of three workouts completed!
Yoga
I fit in two 30-minute routines and two 10-minute routines during the week.
It’s on the Blog
In case you skipped checking in on my blog this past week, here’s what you missed…
- Sunday – Losing an Hour on the Trail and Let the Holidays Begin
- Tuesday – Pulling Together Recaps from Seven Days of Hiking and Biking in Utah, Arizona, and Nevada / June 2019
- Thursday – Buddy’s Late Night Gym Adventures
Coming up this week, tomorrow I’ll have my annual list of last-minute gift ideas for procrastinating shoppers and on Thursday I’ll be looking back at my year in bling.
In addition to the workouts I mentioned above, here’s a complete rundown of my workouts from this past week (completed either outside or in our home gym)…
- Questions:
- • What’s the most relaxing thing you did this past week?
- • How’s the weather where you live?
- • Did you run in a race this weekend?
And that’s my rundown… Have a great week!

I’m linking up with Deborah at Confessions of a Mother Runner and Kim from Running on the Fly for their Weekly Run Down. Be sure to check out not only the hosts’ posts, but those of the other great bloggers joining in on the fun!
Sounds like you had a fun & productive week!
Nothing terribly exciting going on here. Barely anything to write about.
I did make it to a studio yoga class — a night class, no less — I am so not a night person!
You get extra credit for going to yoga at night!
ughhhhh, I have not been on a bike in almost 3 months! Sad thing is I’m not really missing it. I’m gonna have to fire up the stationary one and see if I can reignite that fix.

Oh believe me, I’d gladly skip my rides and run instead, but my body is happier with less running and more riding…
What a fun week of workouts and holiday festivities! I absolutely love your holiday wine glasses 🙂
Thanks, Kim!
Have you permanently cut back on your distance for running? I know you had some injuries early this year, but I was just wondering where you are at, mileage-wise. I’m trying to figure out my plans for 2020. Curious as to what some of us ‘older’ runners are doing.
Love your martini glasses! Enjoy all the celebrating?
I’ve been thinking about that a lot lately, too, Wendy… The half in September really took a lot out of me even though I did quite well. I’m thinking about sticking with shorter distances and trying to get a little of my speed back.
The most relaxing thing I did this week was get a massage. It was fantastic as usual! Looks like you had a great week of fitness and friends
Good for you!
Fun and productive week- lots of celebrating, I love it! Those drinks look great.
Yes, we had so much fun with our friends! 😀
Love the festive glasses! And blueberry martini sounds delicious. I’ve found that I refer to a lot of my former running friends as just friends now. We like to hang out outside of running…which always makes things fun to talk more running. LoL!
Aren’t those glasses cute? And they each have a martini recipe on the bottom!
Great job! It’s crazy how you went from a tank and shorts to layers in the space of days.
No races for me. Blah. The weather has been cooler than usual but it will warm up this week. I hope it cools down for the holidays.
I love that your group gets together for those fun celebrations. We forgot to take a pic at my party on Saturday, too. Whoops.
The weather has been equally crazy this week. Yesterday it went from sleet to snow to rain all in one run!
My one group of runner friends get together more often for celebrations than for runs. LOL
Nothing exciting since I have been nursing a sore foot.
I did go to a yoga class.
Your weeks sounds pretty active.
I hope your sore foot heals quickly!
Love the reindeer top! It is funny how “running friends“become ”friends”!
Thanks, Coco; I got the reindeer top at Target several years ago. And yes, I love the transition many of our running friends go through.
I love the idea of a happy hour with your hubby! Those blueberry martinis look absolutely yummy! I am going to have to find a recipe. I know what you mean about your running friends. I have a group of women runner friends who love to celebrate any and all occasions. I had to miss the last gathering, because we had to drive to Philly to pick up my son and DIL at the airport. They are home with us for a week!

Our goal is to invite at least one other couple over one Friday evening a month for happy hour; and to kick back and relax with a drink (just the two of us) on the other Fridays. It doesn’t always work out, but it’s a great goal to work toward. 😉
I just emailed my blueberry martini recipe to you using the email you used for this comment. Enjoy!
