The Visit that Didn’t Happen
Pablo was supposed to spend the weekend with us, but with the cancelation of the Asheville Half Marathon, his humans stayed home… and so did he.
Social distancing had Pablo doing what so many others were doing, watching Netflix on his laptop… 😆😂
Spring is in the Air
On Monday afternoon I took a short walk around my neighborhood just to admire the spring flowers breathing a breath of fresh air into an otherwise gloomy day.
Yellow jonquils…
White star magnolias…
And by Saturday the sun was shining and these magnolias had started popping open…
Pink northern magnolias…
Changing the Name of my Blog
I’m seriously considering renaming my blog to Deb Whines because between being injured and being sick, I’m starting to feel that my Weekly RunDowns have transformed into Weekly Whines. I was still coughing and feeling exhausted on Tuesday so I called my doctor and asked to talk to a nurse. The receptionist said I should see my doctor instead and made an appointment for that afternoon. Shortly thereafter, she called back and said that due to my symptoms they didn’t want me to come into the office and that they’d see me in the parking lot instead.
I was super impressed with how quickly and how organized they had the drive-through office set up. Long story short, I had never fully gotten over the flu and still tested positive for flue type A. As of Sunday morning I am feeling much better and much less tired. Please note, that I was not given a COVID-19 test because I didn’t have all of the symptoms of the virus so there was no need to waste one on me. I was given another deep swab in both nostrils to test for flu and other viruses.
The entire experience was very surreal…
Physical Therapy, the Great Healer
I had to cancel both appointments with my physical therapist this past week due to being sick AND the need to social distance – I was so bummed. I got a call later in the week asking if I’d be interested in scheduling an appointment this coming week for a session via TeleHealth. I immediately said yes and we’re scheduled for Thursday morning!
Personal Fit Fitness is Temporarily Closed for Business
Sadly, I’ve had to suspend my personal training business (both at the gym and at my home gym) for the foreseeable future. Assuming I continue to feel better later this week, I plan to teach my balance and stretching class via live streaming on Facebook.
Live Streamed Mass
Before moving on to this week’s workout, I’ll leave you with this quote by our priest from this morning during mass which was live streamed on Facebook.
“Though we may be half way through the Lenten season, we have little idea where we stand in our fight against this pandemic which has affected nearly every aspect of our lives… Easter may just be weeks away, but we don’t even know if we’ll be able to celebrate in church and receive the Eucharist on that glorious day. These may not be things to rejoice about, but there is one thing that supersedes all the rest and that is the love and the mercy of God. In fact, our faith may be just that one constant amid all the changes in this world of ours. And perhaps, just perhaps, we’re beginning to see in a new light all the things that we’ve taken for granted, all the things that we’re simply accustomed to as if somehow they’re owed to us.”
And Now on to a RunDown of this Past Week’s Workouts…
Running
0 x 0 Miles
Still no running, but hopefully soon…
Walking
1 x 1 Mile without Incline
2 x 3 Miles with Incline
I may have overdone it by getting back on my treadmill (affiliate link) and pushing myself too quickly after my first round of the flu.
Biking
1 x 10 Miles
I was thrilled to hop back on my spin bike (affiliate link) on Monday for some easy miles, but again, I probably was pushing myself too much.
Strength Training
1 x 1 Hour
0 x 0 Hours of PT
1 x 30 Minutes of PT Homework
A sure sign of me not feeling well is for me to skip a strength training workout. In fact, I skipped two after pushing though Monday’s workout.
Yoga
0 x 0 Minutes
I just wasn’t feeling it…
It’s on the Blog
In case you skipped checking in on my blog this past week, here’s what you missed…
- Sunday – Budding Runners, Getting Back into a Routine, and Social Distancing
- Tuesday – Five Selfie Taking Tips for Older Folks
- Thursday – Key Workout Tools that Aid in Injury Recovery
Looking ahead to this coming week, I have a fun little throwback post about biking in DC during peak cherry blossom season scheduled for Tuesday and a spotlight on local athletes post scheduled for Thursday.
In addition to the workouts I mentioned above, here’s a complete rundown of my workouts from this past week (completed either outside or in our home gym)…
Questions:
- • How did your life change this week? If you work, are you able to work from home? Did you have to cancel any other appointments?
- • What have you been able to do via live streaming, Zoom, etc. that would have otherwise been canceled?
- • Did you run in a race this weekend, perhaps by running a virtual race?
And that’s my rundown… Have a great week!

I’m linking up with Deborah at Confessions of a Mother Runner and Kim from Running on the Fly for their Weekly Run Down. Be sure to check out not only the hosts’ posts, but those of the other great bloggers joining in on the fun!
Crazy times! Poor Pablo, he probably misses his grandma 😉 Our granddoggy ,Lola, is in total heaven right now with our daughter working from home. I hope you’re on the rebound, total bummer to be under the weather, at least it’s at a time when you can’t really go out and be social anyways. I love that message from your priest about seeing the light in all of this 😉

Oh yes, I bet Lola is a happy puppy with her human at home! Are you able to do any of your work from home?
Hey, I saw that you had to stop your personal training. I see mine via face time and it works well. I too am offering classes on facetime live. Email me if you want to hear more about factiming my clients. XO [email protected]
Thanks, Stephanie! I am considering FaceTiming with my clients who would like to keep training with me during this down time, especially now that I’m feeling better.
I don’t think you quite understand what whining is, so maybe hold off on changing the name;-) Life happens, you didn’t ask to be sick, you didn’t ask to be injured, and you didn’t ask to have to close your business and lose your income for who-knows-how-long but you’re dealing with all of it and dealing with it very well ==> and showing the rest of us how it’s done, so mad props. Hang in there friend, and I hope that you and Pablo can visit soon.

Awww, thanks, Beckett! You made my day!
Aww, you have what to whine about. 🙁 Last year when I was in the hospital with that freak stomach bug they did the swab for flu (negative). Thank God that was last year!
Testing is still hard to come by here. Knock on wood we don’t need it right now. I do have a feeling for a lot of us it may be when and how bad, not if.
I am not meeting with my Yoga studio right now for several reasons. I’m not sure how long our break will be and whether or not we go on to online. Crazy times. I’m sorry you’ve had to shut down your business for now. 🙁
Feel better, though, that’s the most important thing!
Thanks, Judy, and yes, crazy times for sure!
That’s crazy that you still tested positive, the flu sticks in the system longer than I realized. Sorry Pablo didn’t come visit. Crazy times. Feel better and no need to apologize for ‘whining!’
Thanks, Jessie! Yes, I was just as shocked when I still tested positive for the flu as I had been when I first tested positive two weeks earlier.
That sure is a surreal experience! I really hope you are feeling better. A few of my friends also seem to have the regular flu now too. Hang in there and stay well
Thanks, Deborah! And yes, I am finally feeling better!
I hope you’re feeling better now! I’m surprised they tested you for the flu–we aren’t swabbing anyone right now, because the swabs can aerosolize viral particles. Scary times! Stay safe.
Thanks, Wendy! Just curious, don’t you have to swab to test for COVID-19?
Pablo is such a handsome dog! Seeing photos of him always makes me smile 🙂
Wow, I can’t believe that you still tested positive for the flu. I know you have been dealing with it on and on for a while. I do hope that you start to feel better soon – hopefully it will leave your body completely in the next upcoming days/weeks.

Thanks, Kim, I think Pablo is very handsome as well, but I know that I’m biased!
I am finally starting to feel better and trying not to overdo it too quickly.
Awww, don’t get too down on your whining. We’ve all been there! That drive through testing really is surreal! I hope you are feeling better soon.

Poor Pablo! Missing a visit with “Grandma”! 🙂 We were supposed to do the Asheville half too but spent the weekend at home. We did the virtual half this morning. First time I ever used Strava.
So sorry you had to temporarily close your personal training business. Here’s hoping you leave that flu behind ASAP!
Laurie recently posted…Three Things I Learned From the Coronavirus Pandemic
Thanks, Laurie! I am feeling better so I hope the flu virus has finally decided to move on once and for all.
What a bummer that you’d signed up for the Asheville Half and couldn’t go on your trip. I’ve never used Strava, but my husband uses if for biking.
Ugh. I will whine right along with you. I had to cancel my PT this week. Telehealth was not an option for me, and I really hope I can do this on my own. I do feel strong, but I am so scared to screw something up.
I’m so sorry about your coaching. It’s breaking my heart that so many small businesses are suffering. We are with you on that, for sure.
Lots of hugs. <3
Thanks, Jenn, I appreciate the hugs!
Trust in what you’ve learned so far in physical therapy and practice those exercises, drills, and stretches. My physical therapist and I are scheduled to have our first TeleHealth PT appointment on Thursday. It will be interesting to see how it goes…
I think everything is a surreal experience these days! I’m glad you are able to do Telehealth with your PT. We are looking into it for Cardiac Rehab but there’s a lot of red tape with it when you are with a hospital. It’s a lot easier if it’s a privately owned clinic.
I hope you continue to feel better!
Thanks, Angela! I hope you can work through the red tape and make TeleHealth work for your patients.
Isnt tele health amazing? I’m wishing you speedy healing and recovery.
I’m actually working extra hours with Clovis. I’m in charge of the National Clovis data collection for our hospital so no work from home for me yet.
Thankful for zoom, we still were able to attend church at home, much needed during these time. No matter how tough our situation we have hope and peace in our Jehovah Shalom.
My physical therapist and I are scheduled to have our first TeleHealth PT appointment on Thursday. I am thankful that it’s an option for me. I’m planning to use Facebook Live and FaceTime to work with some of my clients.
