It’s time to sit down once again over a beverage of your choice and chat about things other than just running, riding, and training. Won’t you please join me? I’ll go first…
If we were having coffee…..
I’d tell you that I just found out that my hopes for running in a live race this year just got squashed when I learned that the Run With Santa 5K has gone virtual. I was injured January through March when live races were happening and now that they’re opening back up, I was hoping this fun race would happen. If I don’t find another small race that’s being held live this year, it will be the first year since 1996 that I haven’t run in race.
If we were having coffee…..
I’d tell you that next Saturday is my birthday and in celebration of turning 63 I plan to ride 63 miles! Please keep your fingers crossed that the weather cooperates.
If we were having coffee…..
I’d tell you that with COVID likely to keep us outside more than usual this winter, Bill and I purchased two patio heaters for our deck. We prepaid for them at Lowe’s expecting for two to be set aside for us when the next shipment arrived. Later we were told that it was unlikely that any more heaters would arrive before February because everyone wants patio heaters this year and they are on backorder everywhere. Just as I was considering asking for a refund, I got a call that our two had arrived so we drove straight to Lowe’s to pick them up before they accidentally got sold to someone else.
If we were having coffee…..
I’d tell you that I missed last month’s coffee date because I was elbow deep in soil as I spruced up several of our gardens and beds. As I mentioned in a couple of my Weekly RunDowns, I hired a high school neighbor to help me with the really hard work (digging bushes with deep roots, etc), but that still left plenty of work for me.
Before – out of control bushes…
After – pruned and shaped bushes and three monster bushes replaced…
Before – a dream buffet for deer…
After – deer resistant perennials (peonies will go where the three stakes are next spring)…
If we were having coffee…..
I’d ask if you remember me telling you about the 24-pack of Honey Stinger gels (affiliate link) I ordered, but received only one lonely packet. I finally got authorization to return the packet (I would have preferred they ship the other 23 packets) and it took over a month for the package to make its way back to Amazon even though I shipped it from one of Amazon’s drop off locations. Then once they received it, it took three weeks for me to get my refund. It was such an odd experience compared to all of my other Amazon dealings.
And finally, if we were having coffee…..
I’d ask if you have any real or virtual races coming up, and if you do, I’d wish you good luck and remind you to have fun!

Today I’m joining Deborah at Confessions Of A Mother Runner and Coco at Running With Perseverance for their monthly Ultimate Coffee Date linkup which goes live the first Friday of every month. Be sure to stop by their blogs for a cup of coffee and to say hello; and while you’re there, be sure to check out some of the other bloggers who are participating in the linkup.
- Questions:
- • What unusual or odd online shopping experiences have you encountered?
- • Do you run/walk/bike corresponding miles (or variations of that number, ex: 6.3 miles) on your birthday?
- • If we were having coffee, what would you tell me?

Oh no, sorry about your race. I have a live Turkey Trot but our numbers are really bad so I’m not betting the farm on the race happening. You guys were so smart to get the patio heaters!

Fingers crossed that I might find a small holiday race…
Yay for lucking out with those patio heaters! We were too slow with ordering and now they are impossible to find.
I hope you can find another local race. I still can’t believe that the one local race I ran back in February will turn out to be my only in-person race for this year.
Yay for running a race back in February!
Patio heaters are finally available again on Amazon, but they’re charging about twice as much as we paid for ours. 🙁
you are so good with your gardening. I have zero patience and zero skills for that! We also supposedly have a heater coming this week. Who knows if that is happening? Happy birthday miles 🙂
I could spend an entire day outside gardening. Once I get started I keep finding more things I want to do. For me, it’s so therapeutic and relaxing.
Hope you get your heater!
I did run a few small races this year, but I know you were injured earlier. It is my first year I haven’t run a marathon since 2005.
Those patio heaters look nice. What a great idea. I think everyone is spending more time outside this year. They will allow you to stretch patio season even later in the fall.
Gosh, that is an unusual experience with Amazon — was it from a 3rd party seller? You know my shoe saga, and I do think that was a scam. I got my money back, but did lose out on all the time I spent fighting for it!
Great score on the heat lights. You were lucky to get them!
Enjoy your birthday ride — I think we are supposed to have a mild November.
Ugh…I got suckered with a FB ad (and after I’d promised myself to never do it again). This looked legit, though…but as soon as I finalized the purchase, the email popped in and said “Due to unexpected volume, it may take between 2-4 weeks for delivery.” That was October 3rd, and the item still hasn’t arrived. When I click on the “track order” icon (from the confirmation email), it takes me to a site that is in French LOL I:m not sure what else I can do…I’m out a whopping $17, so it’s not that big of a deal, just annoying. BTW, it was a gel bike seat cover…and my biking season is just about to conclude LOL Your updated landscaping looks great!
Hope your item eventually arrives! I’ve had a couple of FB ad wins, but one epic fail. The item arrived, but wasn’t at all what I expected. Two years ago I ordered rechargeable biking gloves that I thought I could plug in to preheat before heading out for my ride. Nope, they required two D batteries in each glove and they weighed a ton. LOL
Happy early birthday! I know your ride will be incredible!
Your house and garden are gorgeous! I wish I had a green thumb!
I just completed a virtual half marathon today. It was not a heroic effort, but I’m pretty proud that I managed it 🙂
After the year you’ve had, I’ve very proud of you, too! Major congratulations and high fives coming your way!
Yeah, I got our patio heater at the right time! Now you can’t get them. Although Mr. Judy won’t let me keep it outside. Lola sure did enjoy that warmth, though.
I didn’t run any live races either. First because of my Dad’s passing, then COVID. it is what it is.
Good luck on your birthday ride!
We keep trying to find something the rabbits won’t eat in the backyard, that can stand up to the pine needles and shade — and oh is non toxic to dogs. We seem to be losing that battle.
Yep, if I don’t run in a race this year, I’ll jut chalk it up to 2020.
I don’t see many rabbits in our yard, probably because of the foxes…
Happy birthday! I hope you have a wonderful 63 mile bike ride!
I’m glad that you got your patio heaters! Lowe’s has been so tough with those big orders so I’m glad it worked out!

Thanks, Janelle! And yes, I was pretty happy that Lowe’s came through for us.
Happy birthday! We November babies are the best.
I ran have run my year with a decimal the last couple of years, but throwing around something longer this year. It won’t be 41 or 63 though. Major kudos to you on planning on that, that’s awesome.

Happy birthday to you as well! Fingers crossed that the weather cooperates for my 63-mile birthday ride!

Thanks, Farrah!
