It’s time to sit down once again over a beverage of your choice and chat about things other than just running, riding, and training. Won’t you please join me? I’ll go first…
If we were having coffee…..
I’d tell you that I made a pillow out of my turkey trot race shirt. Each year my family runs in a local turkey trot and each year we get a long sleeved cotton shirt that I stick in a drawer to use as a throwaway at another race. Normally the logo isn’t that great, but I really liked this year’s mask-wearing turkey.
As cute as the turkey is, I knew I’d never wear the shirt and came up with the great idea to make it into a pillow. I didn’t have a pillow form so I used loose fiberfill and it turned out a little lumpy, but that’s okay because 2020 has been a little lumpy. LOL
If we were having coffee…..
I’d tell you that Bill and I had the quietest Thanksgiving in years. Way back in 1983 when we had just moved to Denver and knew no one, just the two of us spent Thanksgiving Day alone. This year, we once again found ourselves celebrating Thanksgiving alone, but this time it was due to a global pandemic, not a lack of family and friends.
If we were having coffee…..
I’d tell you that with my newfound time while being stuck at home over the Thanksgiving weekend I got all of our Christmas decorating done.
If we were having coffee…..
I’d tell you that our little next door neighbor is hilarious. He was out riding his bike when I stepped out to get our mail. I asked if they’d put their Christmas tree up and he said that they’d done it on turkey day. I asked if he’d eaten turkey on Thanksgiving and he said that he didn’t like it. I told him that I wasn’t a big fan either, but Bill loves it. Without missing a beat, he said, “Oh, that makes sense. That must be why he has a turkey on his car.” 😂 😂😂
And finally, if we were having coffee…..
I’d ask if you have any real or virtual races coming up, and if you do, I’d wish you good luck and remind you to have fun!

Be sure to stop by their blogs for a cup of coffee and to say hello; and while you’re there, be sure to check out some of the other bloggers who are participating in the linkup.
- Questions:
- • What do you do with your old race shirts?
- • How did you celebrate Thanksgiving? Was it quieter than usual?
- • If we were having coffee, what would you tell me?

As I said, that pillow is awesome!! I have a few neat cotton shirts from holiday/winter races that I’ll never wear …so I’m gonna plagiarize your pillow idea 🙂
Go for it! That’s what friends are for!
what a great idea about the race shirt esp if it cotton and has a nice logo. Never thought of it.
I did have a quilt made years ago – again when the shirts were cotton and I never wore them anyway. Then I started sending them to my running buddy. I think he got tired of them as well. Now I just donate them.
I did think of having another quilt (repat) but have been lazy about that,
Our thanksgiving was just the 2 of us. We didn’t have turkey. Italian take out – the cannolis were great too.
I do have a 5k on Sunday – realish. But I don’t think I’ll even try to race it (so out of shape) just enjoy.
I’ve always thought about making a quilt with my old shirts, but just never got around to doing it…
Italian takeout for Thanksgiving sounds wonderful to me and I definitely like that kind of food better. There’s an Italian food truck that parks on a street near us every few weeks from 4:30-6:30 and we’ve started getting dinner from them when they’re here. Their cannoli are amazing!
The turkey with the mask is super cute. What a “fun” memento of this crazy year that none of us will ever forget. Love the beautiful tree!
Thanks, Deborah!
Wow! That turkey trot pillow is cool! You are so creative. Your tree is pretty. I need some inspiration. We haven’t gotten a tree yet but I did put up my outside lights yesterday.
Our youngest son and 2 grandsons did join us for Thanksgiving. I was glad they did. It would have been so quiet without them here.

Thanks, Laurie! Not sure how, but the pillow idea just popped into my head one day!
Our son and daughter-in-law had planned to come for Thanksgiving, but once I got exposed to Covid, I had to isolate. Bill and I even had to eat dinner in separate rooms. Thankfully, I tested negative.
I love the idea of making a pillow! How fun!
We had a super quiet Thanksgiving. We did see my (local) parents, but it was outside, and spread out. I didn’t cook nearly as much and the meal was a lot more rushed. Boo.

Thanks, Jenn! Glad you at least got to see your parents for a little while, even if rushed.
Ahh, that’s so cute! I love that you turned it into a pillow–I should maybe do that for some of my shirts!
I had a quieter Thanksgiving as well, but did get to spend it with my family since I’m living with them again–it’s been over a decade since I’ve gotten to do that so it was nice! :]

Go for it and steal the pillow idea for your race shirts. Can’t wait to see what you come up with!
After all of your hard work in medical school and residency, you deserve finally having a relaxed Thanksgiving with family!
Too funny about the “turkey” decal. I love your pillow! What a great idea. I am bracing for a quiet Christmas. It’s hard enough on me with no “kids” anymore, but I won’t even be able to go to church. ~sigh~
I agree, it just won’t seem like Christmas without physically going to Christmas Eve mass. 🙁
I like your pillow! It came out really well. I usually wear race tees to work out in (but not run in — I have Skirt Sports for that).
It was just me & Mr. Judy. I think in 2001 we took a vacation around Thanksgiving — postponed from a missed vacation that was planned for immediately after 9/11 — and it was just me & him then, too. We even ate our dinner at a restaurant! Only Pandemics & terrorist attacks apparently keep us from a family or friend gathering.
Not super fond of turkey either.
Thanks, Judy!
Pandemics and terrorist attacks – now that you mention it, we’ve lived through some pretty significant events.
Oh that pillow is too cute!
Your tree is so pretty! We just started decorating the outside of the house today and hopefully will get our tree later this week.
Thanks, Michelle!
