A Two-Week Running and Cycling Break
Just as I’m getting back into running, I have to take a two-week break because on Monday I had a basal cell carcinoma (skin cancer) removed from my thigh. I was scheduled to have it removed in late October, but rescheduled my appointment thinking we were going to the beach for the last two weeks of the month. Unfortunately, not only can’t I run, but I can’t ride my bike either for risk of pulling on the stitches. It’s just a blip in the road and I’ll enjoy some walks in the meantime!
Overview of the Week
Before discussing each day’s workouts, here’s an overview of my workouts from this past week. Scroll down for daily details…
Sunday
At 9:45 AM I hopped on my spin bike (affiliate link) for 20 miles at 16.5 MPH average speed before our guests – including this handsome fellow – arrived. After they went home, I spent an hour strength training.
Monday
It was 31° with snow flurries when I ran at 6 AM, a little later than usual thanks to my first client being able to meet an hour later than her normally scheduled time. I was thrilled to run 5 miles at a 9:17 average pace and feel great the whole time.
Unfortunately, as I mentioned above, it would be my last run for a couple of weeks…
Tuesday
With a rest day from all exercise and zero clients, I played Santa Claus and delivered gifts to several of my clients. Most weren’t home, but for the few who were, it was nice to see their smiling faces as I stood on their driveway and chatted after ringing their doorbell and walking a safe distance away. Other than over FaceTime during virtual sessions, I hadn’t seen them since early March when we were last able to meet at the gym.
Wednesday
My strength training was limited to upper body only since I can’t risk pulling my stitches in my leg so I wrapped up my workout in just over 30 minutes.
Thursday
Without being able to run or cycle I took another rest day from working out.
Friday
Once again my strength training workout was limited to upper body only. I also opted to cancel my balance and stretching class since I wouldn’t be able to demonstrate many of the exercises and balance drills.
Saturday
Later in morning, I walked 5 miles on my treadmill (affiliate link) at a nice and easy 18:50 pace while watching a Hallmark Christmas movie. I know, I know, I lose brain cells while watching these movies, but I can’t help myself, I’m just a Christmas romantic at heart.
Here’s What You Might Have Missed
In case you skipped checking in on my blog this past week, here’s what you missed…
- • Sunday – Weekly RunDown: November 29 – December 5 / First Run With Friends in Almost a Year
- • Tuesday – The Return of the Gym Elf
Questions:
- • Do you watch (or have you watched) Hallmark Christmas movies?
- • Have you had snow yet?
- • Did you run in a race this weekend? If so, was it live or virtual?
And that’s my rundown… Have a great week!

admitted I have watched 2 cheesy holiday movies so far. I never really have before but this year well you know. Sorry to hear that you had to have another basal cell removed. I feel like once you have had them they keep coming back. Wish I was not so dumb in my younger years about the sun exposure. Speedy healing!
Thanks, Deborah! Yes, I brought this all on myself with my overload of sun exposure when I was younger…
Scary about the basal cell, hopefully they removed it all and all is well. Sending healing thoughts!
Thanks, Jessie!
No shame in the Hallmark movie game! To my way of thinking they make your brain stronger in the long run in the same way that an easy run or a rest day supports our running. The two weeks will go by fast and you’ll be back at it very soon.

Thanks, Beckett! And I like you way of thinking on watching Hallmark Christmas movies. 😉
Sorry to hear that you have to take a couple of weeks off! You remind me that I need to schedule a skin check with my derm. Enjoy your time at the beach. I can’t think of a better place for some nice walks.
Oops, I guess I didn’t make myself clear, we had planned to go to the beach the last two weeks of October, but ended up not going and that’s why I had rescheduled my surgery from late October to December. Anyway, always happy to be of service in reminding friends to get their skin checked.
I’ve heard the snow is coming this week! I enjoy Christmas movies but haven’t watched any yet this year. Hopefully you can enjoy some downtime from harder workouts for the next couple of weeks!
Thanks, Lisa! Our snow turned to freezing rain, how about yours?
Hope your thigh heals quickly.
That Hallmark generator is so spot on. I’m not much of a TV person so I don’t think I’ve seen any in a few seasons.

Thanks, Cari!
We don’t watch much TV either except for sports and spurts of Netflix binges (and now my Hallmark movie obsession while I walk on the treadmill).
Hope your thigh heals quickly. Love your tights

Thanks, I got the tights from Amazon several years ago.
That’s too bad about running/lower body workouts, but great you can still walk, at least — and your attitude about it is great, too, Deb! How sweet you are to deliver presents to your clients.
We did have snow this week, but it didn’t stick around long. We *might* have a bigger storm this coming week, but hey, it is December & much as I could live without snow at all, it is what it is.
We don’t have cable so no Hallmark movies for me but it seems like everyone watched them!
Thanks, Judy! Hope you didn’t get too much snow from yesterday/today’s storm. It disappointed us by turning over to sleet and then freezing rain before moving on past…
Sorry to hear about the procedure…hoping the healing goes quickly and without incident. I don’t watch much tv at all these days (other than Hawkeye/Spartan football/basketball), so I have not had an opportunity to see any cheesy holiday movies (yet) this season. Maybe I could find one while I’m cycling away in the basement (?).
Thanks, Kim! Yep, that’s when I watch things other than sports, when working out on my cardio equipment.
I hope everything goes well tomorrow. I have not watched any holiday movies so far. I am binge watching The West Wing. I have about 10 days to watch 2 1/2 seasons. Next week during break is all I will be doing. 🙂

I loved the West Wing back when it ran originally. I think I watched all the seasons back then.
I hope you heal up fast! I know how not fun it is to be forced to take a break from running/other activities that you enjoy doing. At least the good news is you got it removed now so it hopefully won’t give you issues in the future.
Haha that Hallmark plot photo is on point! I used to make fun of my mom all the time for watching those- I’d make it my mission to guess the plot of the movie and what happened before we got to the end. I still do that to be honest haha. Gotta love Hallmark!

I always try to guess the plot as soon as the movie starts – it’s not that hard. LOL
Sorry about your running break. At least it is winter and you can walk.
No race… just running…flurries today but did not stick…maybe more snow this week…hope not!!
I’m a sucker for Holiday movies!! But haven’t watched much TV lately.
Thanks, Darlene, the two weeks have flown by and I hope to run this weekend, a couple of days early.
Were you affected by the major snow storm yesterday? The snow wimped out and turned to freezing rain as it crossed over us.
I’m so glad you were able to have that removed (although sorry you had to wait).
I hope the stitches don’t take too long to heal up.
We have been trying to watch holiday movies, but A think they’re cheesy. Blah.

A is right! 😉
Get better soon, and don’t go falling into the usual runners trap of returning too quickly and creating even more problems 🙂
I have to admit, I don’t think I have ever watched a Hallmark Christmas film, but having seen the generator, I think I might just try one 🙂
