Trotting Together
Not only did Thanksgiving morning bring me together with local running friends at our annual turkey trot, but I got to “run” with my blogging friends. Kim was kind enough to collect photos from our various runs, races, and workouts and compile them into this fun collage. Do you recognize any of those beautiful smiling faces?
Overview of the Week
Before discussing each day’s workouts, here’s an overview of my workouts from this past week. Scroll down for daily details…
Sunday
Walking: 1 mile
• Average pace: didn’t record
• Start time: 11:49 PM
• Location: City of Palms, FL
• Weather: 79° and humid with occasional sprinkles
• What I wore: shorts, nice top, and Topsiders
Incredibly, the plumbing quite working at the Airbnb where we were co-hosting breakfast the morning after the wedding, and since our Airbnb was a short walk away I made a few roundtrips walking guests to our place to use the restroom. I ended up with a mile under my belt even though I wasn’t wearing my Garmin (affiliate link).
Monday
Running: 4 miles
• Average pace: 9:34
• Start time: 7:18 AM
• Location: City of Palms, FL around our Airbnb
• Weather: 70° and sunny with 100% humidity
• What I wore: shorts, tank, and visor
With a late afternoon flight home to cold Virginia, I had plenty of time to get out and run prior to checking out of our cute little Airbnb. Until January when we return for our bike ride from Miami to Key West, peace out Florida!
Stretching: 10 minutes
Tuesday
Strength Training: 1 hour of total body
Cycling: 25 miles
• Average speed: 16.0 MPH
• Bike: Life Fitness Lifecycle Spin
• Surface: N/A
• Elevation gain: N/A
• Start time: 7:20 AM
• Location: basement
• Weather: 65°
• What I wore: bike shorts and jog bra
Back home, it was too cold to ride outside 28° (feels like 22°) so I hopped on my spin bike (affiliate link) riding a steady speed while chatting with my mom and then my brother.
Wednesday
Cycling: 32 miles
• Average speed: 15.9 MPH
• Bike: Life Fitness Lifecycle Spin
• Surface: N/A
• Elevation gain: N/A
• Start time: 6:25 AM
• Location: basement
• Weather: 63°
• What I wore: bike shorts and jog bra
Thursday
Running: 5K
• Average pace: 7:59
• Start time: 8:25 AM
• Location: Ashburn Farm
• Weather: 30° and overcast to sunny
• What I wore: capris, s/s shirt, shell jacket, double gloves, ear warmer headband, and visor
Walking: 1 mile roundtrip to and then from the race
• Average pace: 15:17 / 18:48
• Start time: 7:50 AM / 9:23 AM
• Location: Ashburn Farm
• Weather: 30° and overcast / 39° and sunny
• What I wore: capris, s/s shirt, shell jacket, double gloves, ear warmer headband, and visor
Cycling: 25 miles
• Average speed: 16.1 MPH
• Bike: Life Fitness Lifecycle Spin
• Surface: N/A
• Elevation gain: N/A
• Start time: 9:52 AM
• Location: basement
• Weather: 68°
• What I wore: bike shorts and jog bra
Foam rolling: 10 minutes
Stretching: 10 minutes
Whew, I’m tired just looking back at all of this! Walking to and from the race start is one of the great things about having a race in our neighborhood. Weather conditions were perfect for a fantastic race and I was pumped with my pace even with my shoe coming untied and having to stop and retie it, costing me 24 precious seconds.
After “mayoring” (chatting with all the people I knew), I walked home with my biking friend Betsy who had walked the race with her family. Since Bill was out biking and Thanksgiving dinner didn’t need to be ready until 5:30 PM, I had plenty of time on my hands so I hopped on my spin bike to multitask while editing pictures from the race and playing around with social media.
Friday
Strength training : 1 hour of total body
Even though I didn’t do a cardio workout, I still got in over 20,000 steps since I spent most of the day carrying boxes up and down from the basement while decorating the entire house for Christmas. I ran out of time and didn’t get any ornaments put on the tree, but at least I got the major lifting done.
Saturday
Cycling: 28 miles
• Average speed: 16.8 MPH
• Bike: Life Fitness Lifecycle Spin
• Surface: N/A
• Elevation gain: N/A
• Start time: 10 AM
• Location: basement
• Weather: 65°
• What I wore: bike shorts and jog bra
With crazy high wind and ridiculously high wind gusts, Bill and I opted to skip riding with the VeloPigs (Reston Bike Club canceled their group ride due to the wind), and instead, I stayed inside and rode on my spin bike once again.

Looks like a busy week! Bummer on the plumbing problems at your AirBNB. I am sure the return to the cold was a shock to the system. It’s been really cold here too! I’m waiting for it to warm up so I can head out to the trails.
Yes, the Virginia cold was quite the shock after the Florida warmth!
Enjoy your trail run!
Busy week! Look at you crushing that 5K right after your traveling. I think I would struggle w the heat in Florida after we have had such great weather here. Congrats again on the wedding!
Thanks, Deborah!
I had big FOMO looking at your Florida pix.
Yesterday was a rude awakening. It has been cold but nice. Yesterday the wind made it really uncomfortable.
Happy to say that it was nice on Sunday and Thursday when I raced.
You had snow yesterday, correct? Brrr…
Isn’t it amazing how much work is involved in bedecking the house? Those boxes are heavy, not to mention awkward (who thought an obnoxiously long Christmas tree box was a good idea?).
It’s a crazy amount of work and I get to do it again next week at my mom’s house.
A very busy week.
Glad you had the time for a run before the check out. You look very fast with both the feet off the ground!
Here it’s not cold yet but it’s raining everyday.
Yes, I was able to fit in a lot of workouts since I took another week off from work. 😉 Tomorrow it’s back to reality!
Oh no on no plumbing while on vacation! Sounds like you took it in stride, so to speak, Deb.
I’ve had to break out the heavy sweaters, but yesterday was our first snow and that’s actually unusual — we’ve usually had more before December. So not complaining. Too much. 🙂
We had plumbing at our Airbnb, but it went out the morning after the wedding at the Airbnb where our new daughter-in-law’s parents were staying and where we were cohosting breakfast. Luckily, we were close by so I was able to escort people to our place to use the restroom.
Yay for your first snowfall – unless you don’t like it and then boo! HaHa! I always love our first snow, but now that I’m older I tire of it quickly. Plus it really plays havoc on my work schedule with rescheduling appointments, etc.
I love how so many people’s weekly rundowns include putting up their Christmas decorations! I love Thanksgiving weekend.
I hate to tell you, but the weather down here is going to be beautiful all week! Less humid, down to the 50s at night, 70s during the day. We’ll keep it like this for your bike ride in January.
Sounds like you had a great week- congratulations on your turkey trot- that’s a nice pace!
Thanks, Jenny! And yes, please do what you can to bring us good weather in early January for our ride! 😉
What a lovely week! Amazing work on that 5k!
Envious of those runs in shorts and tanks in Florida!
Thanks, Jessie!
Wow, another busy week for you but it looks like you had a great time in Florida! Congrats on your 5K!
Thanks, Kim!
I can imagine returning to Virginia after Florida was a shock to the system. It turned cold and crazy windy here last week…is it too early to start complaining 🙂
Congrats on your 5K!
Thanks, Michelle! And no, it’s never too early to complain about the weather. 😉
How long of a trip is the bike ride from Miami to Key West? That sounds like quite the adventure!
Lisa @ TechChick Adventures recently posted…Weekly Workouts – so thankful
I think it’s 77 miles the first day and 45 the second day. I can’t wait, it’s going to be so much fun!
I recognise all those lovely faces! That balloon turkey is brilliant!
Isn’t it great? They have two at the starting line each year, but this year one of them didn’t make it to the starting line and was still tucked away near the church. I suppose he was a DNS! HaHa!
Looks like a wonderful and successful week!
So in my part of Florida (northeast) it’s been so cold. Like we have even had frost a few mornings. Good times.
We didn’t do any Black Friday shopping. There wasn’t much we needed.
Thanks, Jenn! It certainly helped that I took the week off and had extra time to workout.
Frost must be a rude awakening in Florida.
