It’s time to sit down once again with a beverage of your choice and chat – I’ll remind you that I don’t like coffee or tea so my drink of choice today will be hot chocolate. Let’s chat about things other than just running, cycling, strength training, yoga, and complaining about our most recent injuries. Sound good? I’ll go first…
If we were having coffee…..
I’d tell you that Pablo’s humans (our newlywed son and daughter-in-law) are on their honeymoon in Jamaica this week and we have the honor of watching the little guy! He’s having a fun week and we are loving every little snuggle.
If we were having coffee…..
I’d also tell you that our same son and daughter-in-law are moving to Florida later this month. Totally separate from their wedding being in Florida and long after they decided to get married there, a recruiter reached out to our son with a fantastic job opportunity in Tampa. They, along with sweet little Pablo, will no longer be a 20-minute drive away. I am so happy for their next adventure, but I certainly will miss seeing the three of them on a regular basis.
If we were having coffee…..
I’d tell you that I suspect you’ll be seeing more pictures of me running in Florida considering the above news.
If we were having coffee…..
I’d tell you that I’ll be driving to visit my mom on Sunday and coming home on Wednesday. It will be the first time I’ve made the drive by myself in about five years. Most of the drive is on I-81 where there’s an unbelievable amount of tractor trailer traffic and to say I’m apprehensive is a huge understatement. Using a fitness analogy, if you don’t practice a specific skill regularly, you lose your edge and confidence. I used to make the trip without thinking twice about it. Heck, I’ve driven with an infant and a toddler in tow, bickering elementary school kids, and surly teenagers, so I’ve got this!
If we were having coffee…..
I’d tell you that since I’m going to visit my mom, I won’t be able to run in the Run with Santa 5K this year. Perhaps I’ll just have to create my own while on the farm.
If we were having coffee…..
I’d tell you that I have all of our Christmas decorations up and shining brightly. I spent all day on Friday after Thanksgiving and part of Saturday getting everything out of storage and carried up from the basement. Bill got our outdoor lights strung around the deck railings on the back of the house and on the trees and foundation bushes in the front yard. It always feels so festive to have lots of lights twinkling!
If we were having coffee…..
I’d ask if you have any races coming up, and if so, I’d tell you to have fun and stay safe!

Today I’m joining Deborah at Confessions Of A Mother Runner and Coco at Running With Perseverance for their monthly Ultimate Coffee Date linkup which goes live the first Friday of every month. Be sure to stop by their blogs for a cup of coffee and to say hello; and while you’re there, be sure to check out some of the other bloggers who are participating in the linkup.
- Questions:
- • If you have adult children, do they live nearby?
- • Do you have any holiday themed races coming up?
- • If we were having coffee, what would you tell me?

I’ve told my boys they can’t move far away, lol! My oldest is happily settled in the city and my youngest still has another year at Wisconsin. But he’s got wanderlust and we’ll see where he ends up. Sigh… at least you have a great place to visit!!!
Yes, it will be fun to visit them in February when it’s so cold here!
Oh, I feel your pain, since my daughter lives in Colorado. It’s great to visit her though!
I hear you on I-81. Are there fewer trucks on Sundays? I think that used to be a thing ….
Have a nice visit.
Colorado is a great place to visit! We lived near Denver for a short time a couple of years after we were married.
I think you’re correct in that there were fewer tractor trailers on Sunday when I drove to the farm than yesterday on my drive home.
It is hard to have your kids far away, isn’t it? Now Pablo too?! Enjoy him this week. Hope you have a great visit with your mom and I am sure your drive will be fine! At least you can stop to go to the bathroom when you want to! LOL Thanks for linking up

You are so spot on about being able to stop and go to the bathroom whenever I wanted. What is it about men and stopping? LOL
Oh, I know the feeling of having the kids move out of state. We just got the oldest daughter back (it’s been two years already!), and not the son is out east (but really loving it out there). He’ll be relocating to West Palm Beach, in a couple months, when his training is complete. Gotta love Florida and all the requisite visits there 😉 (I’m sensing a potential sunny meet-up in our future?)
I need to learn the geography of Florida now that we’ll be visiting more often. Is West Palm Beach near The Villages?
I am sorry your son, new bride & Pablo are moving away. That’s hard. Tampa is nice though.
When we first moved back to NY, we almost never just visited my parents for day. Occasionally, but mostly we’d stay over. Mr. Judy rarely comes with me now — yup, you just get used to it, but I will say, it’s REALLY nice when it’s not just me & he does half the driving. You’ve got this! Hope it’s a great trip & that your mom is well.
Thanks, Judy, Tampa is a nice place to visit and I’m looking forward to traveling there when it’s cold here, but warm there.
I had a great time with my mom. I was so busy taking care of stuff while there and decorating her house for Christmas. I’m sure you understand better than anyone else how much there is to do on visits.
Oh, that crying image would be me, for sure! But my very next thought was, you’ll have lots of trips to Florida in your future! Things could be a lot worse.
Yes, i love how pretty everything looks with the Christmas decorations up. i don’t have my outdoor lights up though, and it seems like I’m the last one in the neighborhood. Sigh! I’ll have to get on that this weekend.
With having your son move so far away for college, I know you totally understand how I feel. And yes, I’ll enjoy visiting Florida, especially during the winter.
My husband puts up our outdoor lights and did a fantastic job this year. Having a little one around again really motivated him, even though Connor is only four months old. LOL
Sorry that your son, his wife and the lovely dog are moving away. I am lucky because both my children and their families live in our hometown.
Have a safe trip.
You’re very lucky – it’s wonderful having family so close by, and luckily for the past two years, we’ve had both sons and their families live within 20 minutes of us. I’ve lived at least six hours from my parents my entire adult live and it stinks, but I love it where we live.
My youngest daughter is an 8 hour drive away but we FaceTime almost daily so she feels much closer. She is supposed to be coming back in a year to stay…fingers crossed.
It’s a constant topic of conversation though. I want everyone to stay close. 🙂

I’m sure there will be lots of FaceTiming in our future!
I feel you on that drive. The first time I decided to drive to Florida I was a stress ball about 95. I’ve found leaving NYC around 7a makes it doable as I miss rush hour in Baltimore. I have a feeling we’re going to end up meeting up in Florida before Virginia, LOL. I’ll miss seeing Pablo in all your posts

Driving on I-95 is no fun either (we take it on our way to the beach house). Having tractor trailers fly past on I-81 is harrowing, but sitting still in non-moving traffic on I-95 is just as annoying.
I know, I’m so going to miss seeing Pablo regularly. At least we can both follow his Florida shenanigans on Instagram! 🙂
Oh no! I am sorry to hear about your son, daughter in law, and Pablo. But you will definitely have a great with them in Florida. I hope you had a great time with your mom!
